3ds max 4 - how much is it?

Does anyone know how or where to get an older copy of 3ds max? The autodesk site only sells 3ds Max 8 now (I know its way too much for me) and I have realized that if I want to do this DTS Stuff right, 3ds max is the most supported way out there (more people have it, use it, more tutorials for it, ect.)

So... Does anyone know what an older version costs, and where to get one?

I don't believe you can legally pick up an older version without AutoDesk's approval for a license transfer, and I do not beleive that any resellers of AutoDesk products are allowed to sell old copies.

If you're a student, you can get the educational version of 3d Studio Max 8 for about $600.
