3DS -> Map

Has anyone seen a 3ds to .map exporter for Max7? Any form of .Map?
You see, we have a whole city map made in 3ds for this project, and we need to get it in .map format somehow, someway. Even if we have to import/export a gazillion times, in a gazillion programs.

I'm not sure if GLB can take direct full maps properly... either way that thing looks awesome.

Not for right now, but maybe in the future?I'm not sure if GLB can take direct full maps properly... either way that thing looks awesome.

Btw, thanks were checking GLB Right now!

I know the differences and stuff, i just gotta get this exported to a basic level so i can import into 3DWS, and seperate the Terrain (For HEightmap), and the Buildings (for UV Mapping). It'll be a long process, but its worth it. Btw, thanks were checking GLB Right now!

I thought you did since I've been tracking you for a while (Big Bro Mode ENGAGE). Haven't seen much activity so I thought you were probably getting busy! Break up your map into digestible chunks and go piece-by-piece for easier debugging and loading into 3DWS. I am not sure what kind of geometry that GLB creates. Matt would be a much better source since he knows such things.

If your talking about tracking me. I've just been bogged down with so much stuff. Ged Tests, COllege Exams, working full time :). Life got me by the horns.

I hear that! I have almost inadvertantly gotten my Masters by taking classes that I thought were "fun". And as soon as I realized I might be able to get a degree I hit anal mode. Which is why my RPG tutorial has been on hold for a while (as well as RealLife(tm) currently).

Hmm, seems we're gonna have to remake the whole map =\

Friends don't let friends build CSG in Max. :)

The Cipher engine supports CSG's exported from Max with concave collisions.

Do don't have to - you could rewrite the interior rendering code to accept Concave collisions and arbitrary surfaces from a 3d program. It's doable, but It'd take alot of work.The Cipher engine supports CSG's exported from Max with concave collisions.

@Mincetro: I would like to stay away from that situation. Its out of my knowledge base, plus the whole map is concave, so why do that for a likely performance drop?
I'm sitting here explaining how the torque game engine works to my modeler, and its irritating. What we'll do is we'll seperate the terrain form the rest so i can heightmap it, then use .dif for the rest.

@Tim: It was a freebe, given to us by a friend of the team. Beautiful map, made for midtown madness 2. It looked better then the Microsoft made maps.@Mincetro: I would like to stay away from that situation. I think that you would be surprised just what you can do with 3DS Max & CSG. Its not as horrible as one would think if the end user who is doing the work in Max knows what they are doing (ie. intermediate to advanced user).
Sadly I think this knocks out most of the talent here in the GG community, but it is possible and you do get some good results out of it.
