Help with custom moving platforms

by Phil · in Marble Blast · 05/29/2006 (11:10 pm) · 20 replies

I want to work on a new level with custom moving interiors. For a start I don't even now how to get the default moving interiors into my level! Please read my question below.

Does anybody here know how to create CUSTOM moving platforms? I think you have to use QuArK (I use QuArK for making custom interiors for my levels). That would be excellent if someone could tell me how.

UPDATE:

The level will be called Challenge Tower. I plan to make this an EXTREMELY hard level (maybe to test some of them elite marblers that are up for a challenge) This will be a humongous QuArK map!

Up to now NOBODY here knows how to make Custom Moving Platforms. You have to learn it yourself as far as I know. Also same for CUSTOM moving platforms.
Anyway, I'm looking forwards Challenge Tower but at the moment I'm the elitest of all. Sceptus MIGHT try (I don't think he plays custom levels) and Andrew Patterson will be a good player too. However, I'm sure some of the less elite marblers will give it a go and probably finish it. Just make it have some good shortcuts for them!

Oh well, I'll have to make Challenge Tower just as hard without the moving platforms. =(

Anyway, I'll try to get 1 or 2 shortcuts in.

What about "a day at the beach"? it has jumping platforms.

He's looking for MOVING platforms, like in Natural Selection, but everyone is lazy trying to see the code of that movinig platform. Same in Twisting the Night Away.

No, a day at the beach does use custom moving platforms, you're right. I might try to figure it out...

Also see Solo's level oil rig - he used the moving platform from Platform Training.

Weird. Last I remember they weren't custom. Interesting!

I think I know how to create them in QuArK but not in MarbleBlast. So it might or might not have moving platforms.

I think you have to take the code (in the .mis file) from one of the levels with a moving platform, and adapt it for your level.

I am not sure if the name of the level is going to be changed to say, Tower of Challenges or Ultimate Tower Challenge, I don't know.

Just check out that your level name doesn't collide with other custom levels' names.

Hey everyone, I just found in my bookmarks which has a thread on how to create custom moving platforms! Yippee!

UPDATE:

I've tried the moving platform thing here and it hasn't worked. Has anybody else gotten this working?

An old bump, but I know Phil is still an active marbler. Phil, I need some more information, as the stuff you told me in MSN wasn't enough.

Luckily, Alex has just told me this about the 'shell' thingy:

How to test an interior file (.dif)
1. Before you do anything, please put your exported interior into marble/data/interiors like as usual :)
2. Now click on the Start menu > then choose Run...
3. Type in the window, cmd and click OK.
4. You'll now be in the Command Prompt. Type in (without the quotes) "cd C:\Program Files\MarbleBlast". It depends on what the path is of your MBG folder is. Jase tells me that his path is "C:\My Documents\MBG" or something. And also a note: please use backwards slashes ( \ <-- these)
5. Now, depending on what your MarbleBlast .exe file is called, in this case I would type "marbleblast.exe -test yourinteriorname.dif"
6. MBG should now create a new mission saying something as the title "Interior Test: yourinteriorname.dif". When the marble spawns, you'll see an interior straight below you. In QuArK, you can make it so you don't have to spawn up into the air - but on the platorm :)
Notice: you can create moving platforms using this testing method.
2nd Notice: if it doesn't work, you have definitely made a typo (a mistake in your writing) :) Sometimes, I type in tset instead of test lol.

Happy Interior Testing!

~Phil~

Have you made a true moving platform using this method yet? I've only been able to hack code from other levels to add custom moving platforms.

solo.

Phil managed to create moving platforms and he gave me a QuArK MAP template for moving platforms. So I make my moving platforms off it.

Hey Phil, could I have it as long as it is not MBP based, and if so, could you email another one to me? I think it is an error with my QuArK making.

I get through the stuff with the shell, that is clear. Just in QuArK, I think some parameters are missing.

@Solo, yes I have :)

@TG, I will send you a non-MBP based template after school.
