New level: Cubic Zirconia
by Bobby · in Marble Blast · 05/12/2006 (9:40 am) · 22 replies
I have a new level ready; it's called Cubic Zirconia. There are some fake gems among the real gems, it should take trial and error to find which are real. Probably not my best, but what the hey, it's a level. It uses one custom interior, mudmama.dif. I have sent the ZIP file to Matan; if you want it let me know.

I know fake gems don't rotate, that's why I fixed the real gems so they don't rotate either.

General Comments:
Cubic Zirconia is another great level from Bobby, with little flaws. Although original, creative and funny at times (and apologising ;)), Cubic Zirconia can be disappointed for those who got used to Bobby's Hodge Podge level. It might be as large as, but it's a lot more harder and missed the spark that Hodge Podge had. The idea of faking stuff is very fun and original, but you can easily see who is real and who isn't. For example. if you manage to reach the distant blue platform you can see some bumpers. Some are real some are fake. How you know? Easy: The fake ones have a coat of blue color on them.
Anyway, with an easy gold time of 3:30.00 minutes, Cubic Zirconia is recommended.
Personal Comment:
I was rather disappointed with this level. Although it was a brilliant idea to use all these fake stuff, it was rather frustrating at times (getting from the whirl part to the blue platform was very hard! Not once did I miss it!). I didn't find a single shortcut (and the only one I did sent me Out of Bounds), but the idea of OOB trigger on a fake gem was fun. Some of the flaws were the real gems also rotated instead of not rotating. The small platform is waaay to small but reachable after a while. Disappointing, but always fun to play. Good job with that level and well done.

I don't see a single physical difference between the fake and real bumpers.
And yes, even I admit I could have done better.

Also, look closely at the top of the fake bumpers vs the real ones, it's a different kind of color, not physical.
@Tristan - thanks :)

By the way, you can tell fake from real gems by seeing how the rotate. Fake gems don't rotate. (Credits to Matan!)
