Cannot load FPS, Racing or Torque game engine demo
by Andrew Ryan · in Torque Game Engine · 05/11/2006 (11:06 am) · 10 replies
My computer specs are:
3500 64bit, 3 gbs ram, geforce 7800gtx, dual monitor, win XP pro 32bit SP2.
Whenever I try to run these programs from the Torque Game Engine SDK kit, it just loads a small DOS box, then the box quickly disappears without a trace.
Have I missed out a step to install it or set it up?
Any extra help will be most appreciated, thanks.

I've seen this kind of error before, but usually only after I totally screw something up. Its probably a processor issue like Tim said.

I assumed the latest drivers came with SP2.

Yes, its an AMD 3500+ 64bit processor, I was just wondering, where can I obtain new/different drivers for the CPU.I assumed the latest drivers came with SP2.

Have you compiled the source code at all yet or is this still all from a clean install?

Check the log file to see if any errors are reported. That might give you a clue as to what's going on.Have you compiled the source code at all yet or is this still all from a clean install?

"OpenAL Driver Init:
OpenAL
Missing OpenAL Extension function 'EAXSet' "
I ve tried reinstalling it, renaming some .dll's but still no luck.
Its from a clean install.
Any further suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks.

Well you certainly don't want to rename the .dlls, that would break it more. Try recompiling it and see if that fixes it, if that doesn't work though then I'm stumped.

Are you running the latest video drivers from nVidia's website?

It seemed to be caused by upgrading my sound card to the X-fi. Alot of games would either crash/not run unless I did the following:
Use the Creative labs driver CD to remove all drivers (not just uninstalling them from control panel), then downloading the latest drivers and installing them (after the necessary prompts for rebooting).
I hope this helps anyone else.
