Internet Hosting

by Tim Heldna · in General Discussion · 04/29/2006 (10:01 pm) · 12 replies

If anyone can recommend a good internet host that's not too expensive I'd like to hear about it. Also, we have an unfinished website up (using crappy free hosting for the moment) with some basic information about our ADF game.
Here's the link if you're bored Sentinel Controlled Games

Lastly, we have a new message board (also unfinished) and we'd appreciate it if you came and said hello.

IXWeb hosting is a great host. I've been using them for 4 years with no downtime. Their cheapest plan is $3.95 a month for 10gb of space and 2 domains. (1 free if you want it)

Be wary of the overseller.

Check out WebHostingTalk.com for alot of reviews and recommendations.

Hope that helps,
Tom.

WebHostingTalk Search: 1and1

I currently have 4 domains with 1and1(UK), and used to have hosting. I moved away from using their hosting services, (but their domain costs for co.uk are amazing), and went elsewhere. If you are looking for shared/reseller hosting you might want to check out:
HostGator (Never used them personally, but they are suppost to be very good)
HostNexus (Good Reviews)
2kXhost (Very good - Used to have hosting, moved on elsewhere - needed a server)
2UK2 (Used to have hosting, moved on to 2kXhost)
TOSDomains (They do hosting, but I only have domains with them)
LunarPages (I haven't used them personally, but a friend has.)

Some that I can remember off the top of my head.

They're great. NOt to mention you get SVN repositories as well, 20 gigs of space and more! $9.95 a month, and if you decide to go with them, let me know and I'll give you a PROMO code that'll waive your setup fee.

This IXWeb hosting is one hell of a deal... Hell I might just sign up now.

I use Startlogic, their prices start at $5 a month, it comes with a free domain, 15GB or disc space and 250GB of bandwidth, an unlimited amount of domain email addresses, but only 3 MySQL databases. I am absolutly %100 sure they are overselling, it doesn't really bother me that much.

I've been very happy with dreamhost.com for a couple years now.
cheap and very full-featured. eg Forum software, wikis, oscommerce, etc.

oh chip already said them.

Wow, thanks for all the help guys! I've now signed up with LunarPages. Man, what a tough decision, so many providers so many varying prices and so many different features... It was giving me a headache in the end so I just had to sign up with someone before I went crazy.

I had no idea there were so many good hosts out there

Either did I Mark, unfortunately there are just as many bad hosts. Our website is now up with a registered domain and proper hosting thanks to lunar. Might not be the best deal out there but it's far from the worst. Support is excellent, they even have a forum section which is quite active. $95US got me a free registered domain, 14 months hosting, 450gb monthly transfer and 5gb storage.
