Torque on Wikipedia

by Brian "Ayavaron" Ross II · in General Discussion · 04/25/2006 (7:35 pm) · 14 replies

I recently noticed that Torque/GarageGames's showing on Wikipedia was pretty sparse, so I took it upon myself to massively overhaul the Torque Game Engine article. Here is the current version of it and here it was before I touched it.

I'm still not entirely happy with the results but there is definitely an improvement. BUt more, GarageGames-related articles still need work. I put links to them from the TGE page I did. (See Also section)

I thought it'd be cool if the rest of the GG community did the rest of the wikipedia articles. I mean, its kind of a travesty that they're in the state that they're in. I'll probably do more work on them tomorrow, but I think it'd be cool if the community contributed.

Thanks for the link to the DRL resource! Unfortunately, only TLK owners can view it, which makes the link a little pointless to the majority of people viewing the wiki. I changed the link to this which is public, and has links to downloadable "demo" executables.

Yea that is probably a good idea. I guess I wasn't thinking when I made the link as it was.

Way to step up Brian, you really did GG a service here. They definately deserve any publicity they can get!

Way to go Brian!

Just one question:
Quote:
They negotiated a deal with Vivendi Universal to buy the Tribes 2 game engine. After some extensive modification, the Torque Game Engine was created.

Sierra?

Great job Brian!

I think that Sierra was owned by Vivendi... or maybe I am mistaken.

I thought so

Thanks for the kind words and minute corrections. I was thinking that perhaps there should be a section of the article listing games made with the TGE. However, that seems like the list might be too long. I think I would only want to include finished games, but I dunno. Should I?

BTW: I'll get started on revamping the TSE article soon.

I dont think you should list all of the games made...if anything name just the 2 or 3 most recognizible...however that is just my opinion, if you feel strongly about it, go for it I say.

Make them games that are developed outside of GG, too.

Setting it up in an example genre table would be cool, too.
Tribal Trouble/Venture africa for strategy, Minions of Mirth for MMO, DH:L I for shooters and Tube Twist for puzzle.

Tribal Trouble isn't TGE though... it's written in Java =o

It is? I never knew that. I guess I just assumed it used the RTS kit... Well, anyway, I think it'd be nice to merger the Torque articles together, instead of having three seperate articles having one long one.
