Problem Texturing Lightwave OBJ in Maya

Hello,
I've imported a .OBJ (Lightwave) model of a watertower into Maya 7.0 unlimited
I can work with it very well and export to DTS without problems.
However, I can't get any of the texture mapping to work, when I assign a texture file
through material attributes and do a render it always shows that grey shading.
I can create other poly objects in maya and do testure mapping just fine. I dont know what to try
I can't figure out what could be wrong with the .obj models.
Could someone please help me, I'm at a dead end and don't know what to try,
all my models are in .OBJ format and I really need to use maya.
Thanks for the help.

I got it to work, It's because I'm new to modeling, When I applyed the texture it was hidden
in the grid and it took me a while to find.
Thanks for the help, this is going to be fun when I get all the pieces together,
it's just allot when your first starting out.
