Loading .eff particle files question

I see that every example loads the .eff particle effect as needed. Is there a way to instance them. Does the engine know to reuse a previously loaded particle? It all works, i'm just wondering if the system is taking a hit by constantly loading the file when my 500 projectiles explode within 20 seconds :)
