TSE developer formed atlas terrains

I have been using L3DT to create terrains for my game. However, I was trying to figure out how to have more granular control in regards to creating terrains. L3DT does a great job at creating nice looking terrains but I need to be able to add things like path's up the side of mountains, create slopes in certain places, flatten certain places...

My question is, How are you doing this now without the atlas terrain gui? Do you use photoshop to modify the height map then use that heght map for the terrain?

The easier stuff is flattening certain areas, creating slopes in others. You can do that right from within L3DT with the manual heightmap edit tool. Gives you pretty decent control. The tricker part is going to be the mountain path.

I tried another terrain editor recently which does that, Freeworld3D. It gives you control similar to the worldbuilder in TGE.
