Whats up?

Hey guys,

I am new to these forums and to the TGE, I just purchased it today and still working my way through the tutorial. I had some previous experience with Programming, I have worked with Delphi, C++, PHP, mySQL, C-Script and Dark basic. My modeling skills aren't that great yet but I am still learning how to use my newly purchased copy os Softimage|XSI 5.0 Foundation with the DT Training Videos but I have worked my way through almost every popular modeling program: MAX 7, Milkshape 1.7, GameSpace 1.5 and the Blender 2.4 BETA, but right now I work with XSI and I am urgently waiting for the XSI to DTS exporter that is in development. I designed levels with WED (the A6 Game Engine world editor), WorldCraft, Catography Shop and 3D Worldstudio. I just wanted to introduce my self an say high, as you can probably read in my profile my real name is Kevin Erkelenz and I was born on the 23rd of September in 1991.

Good Work Kevin!
welcome aboard.

sounds like you got some stuff under your belt.

I promise many hours of fun and frustration with the torque :)

Hey thanks, Im used to frustration, I just came from the A6 Engine, hey its not bad but I just couldnt stand it any more!

By the way, I dont get this whoel shader engine stuff, two questions here:

-Does Torque 1.4 support physics?

-Does Torque 1.4 suppoer shaders?

Thanks in advance!

1.4 supports basic vehicle physics and collision, but if you want something more advanced you can llok at using ODE with torque, ore even Ageia.

1.4 doesn't support shaders, only the TSE supports shaders. You can add bumpmapping to the interiors using some of the resourses on the site, but not using the stock engine.

Why does Garagegames call Torque an AAA engine without support of shaders without TGE and no physics?

What?

Because it is an AAA industry proven engine. It's a few years old though and shaders didn't just exist back then. This is why we have TSE.

and no physics?

Mincentro answered this and no one said "no physics".

Hmmmh it seems like a good engine with all the other features, but don't you have to pay extra for TSE?

Yes there are tons of physics engines out on the WWW, but how exactly would I get Newton game dynamics for example coded in to the Engine?

Physics: Well, I've never done it myself, but as far as I know, you just replace all of the collision calls and raycasts with the ones from the Physics engine. It's a bit more complicated, but thats the gist of it.

Shaders: Yeah, you do need to pay extra for TSE. The results are usually worth it if you have the extra cash and a great artist, though.

Some other people have implemented ODE and the other physics engines, there are some pretty in depth posts about it if you do a search. If you're using TGE, you will probably want to purchase the Torque Lighting Kit if the lighting and graphics are really important to you.

I guess I can live without physics for now, I do want to get the lighting kit then but before all of that will happen, i have to save up some money and get more familiar with torque, I just started yesterday! :) Thanks for your help though guys, I really appreciate it!

EDIT (PS):

Is there any news on when the stable release of TSE will be available? And what is it all about with Torque Constructor, I understand its a level editor but is there any site where I can get more info on the on-going projects of garagegames, something olike a forecast page? Thanks in advance.
