Too many 3D programs!! Need to pick one

I really want to incorporate 3d objects in TGB, so I don't need the insane amounts of power that most 3d programs have.

I'm using Mac OSX, so the best options seem to be Maya, Lightwave, and Blender.

Once I get a Intel Core Duo, I'd like to look into 3D Studio Max, as it looks extremely fast for basic game art.

I want to use the one that is the easiest to learn and use.
I downloaded blender, but even after reading tutorials, the GUI seems very cryptic.
Both Maya and Lightwave would be overkill, but I'm looking for something intuitive.

I might just end up waiting until I have Windows and learn 3ds max.

Any advice?

3ds max would be your best bet. If you want a cheat software go with gamespace 1.6, you will here alot bad things about gamespace but once you learn how to use it is very easy to work with.

Unfortunately I do not have access to a PC at this time ...however, if I had a PC I would probably just start playing with 3ds max

I'm still playing with Blender... I hope to get the hang of it soon so I can begin creating [sheesh]

If you're looking for a cheaper optino, use Wings3D for the modelling. (Just make sure you have a 3-button mouse.) And then use Blender for the animation. Blender's gui is a lot less cryptic when it comes to the animating and Wings3D has a quite intutive GUI.

Looks good, thanks. I've just been relying on this page:

Will I be able to convert files from these other 3D programs into DTS?

Nevermind, I see that Wings can use Blender to render then I can get from there to TGB.

Personally i would use the PLE version of maya for 3d, its freely downloadable from autodesks website and they do a mac version too. You can then use the Torque DTS exporter.

The PLE version of maya comes with a few tutorials and you can go to www.3dbuzz.com and download some free tutorials for maya. The versions are older tahn the one you would get from the website but the information is transferable. Also its a friendly community were people readily help each other out.

Hope that helps.

PaceMaker is very good, priced low and easy to create animations. I'm looking for a good modeller but Shaper looks like it will work for me.. If not I may go with Silo or Zbrush.
