Changing a DTSs final LOD a Sprite

Has anyone tried adding a Sprite to a shape as the last LOD?
So lets say the DTS shape has 3 LODs... When there's no more LODS it
switches to the sprite...
This will of course be a engine change, as the Sprite won't always face the
player when you add it directly to the Model itself.
So anyone done it and shared? Or should I put that on my To-Do list?

I'm wondering if it will be worth it though.
Although the problem will be that when the model changes it's LOD, it switched over directly...
There's no Blending or Morphing between the LODs. Or am I wrong?
I quickly scanned across the code last night... It's not gonna be the simplest of takes :-/
