The Mac and K. Finney's Book

by Carpenter Software · in Torque Game Engine · 03/25/2006 (2:29 pm) · 6 replies

I have Ken Finney's Book on 3D Game Programming All in One. Great book but it's aimed at the, you know, the PC. I have a Mac.

Has anyone applied the sources toward TGE 1.4 and a Mac?

K. Finney uses TGE 1.2 and I am sure there are some major differences between the two engines.
Any advice or comments will be welcomed. Thanks ;)

I beleive the new version already includes a Mac Install.

I would say that 99% works great on a mac.

The changes from TGE 1.2 to TGE 1.4 won't have any impact with the book

OK! In 3D Game Programming All in One (3DGPAiO), I want to do something easy using the Mac ..."Hello World" on Page 49. Since I cannot use the contents of the files organization from the CD that came with the book because which I tried , it failed. Do I use the common folder lets say from the example folder that comes with the Mac Install???? What is the minimum set up I need to do this "Hello World"?

Any comments are welcomed....living in a dream.

Check the 3DGPAIO forum, this question was already presented over there.

Mr Bruno:
Thank you, but I like to keep this tread and any future treads concerning 3DGPAiO on the Mac forum. I will review the other forum, but I may be too stuffed with PC google. Also I may work exclusively here concerning any Mac problems. This is by-the-way to be used by Mac users. Mr Bruno you are always welcomed to help me. You had mentioned that 99% of the sources work great on a Mac. Are there any contents (sources) from any of the install.exe that I may need? (Or all the necessary files exist in the open directories (folders)?)

Thank you

Well,

This isn't how people use the forums. Using the book specific forums you'll help other people that also have the book and perhaps will want to port their games to a Mac.

and...

It's a public forum, that means that more people have access to it, meaning more possible help when you need it,

You won't need to read much, there are SEVERAL posts on the 3DGPAI1 forum with the "Mac" keyword on the subject. A fast browse will bring you to your answers.

P.S.
You should use the 3DGPAIO, some people over here are cranky about cross-posting in the forums, you might encounter people who just won't answer to cross-posted threads.

P.P.S
Please call me just Bruno.
