Northern California Team Forming

by NA · in Jobs · 03/22/2006 (9:05 pm) · 9 replies

Attempting to setup a team / network with other developers like minded in Northern California. Recently purchased a condo in Sacramento, and would like to find other developers in the area to bounce ideas off of, and hopefully start up a team (willing to donate space, time, equipment, certain monetary resources, etc, besides the fact that I do database development, web design, level design, and more). Would like to eventually put together a small team for an entry level project.

Its funny i've been posting similar things on all the local sites here :) I'm in San Francisco, currently attending the Academy of Art university and getting pretty good at 3ds max, modeling rigging skinning, specifically for games. I also know a good half dozen or so class mates picking up the same skills and all of us are interested in doing something with them.

Hey Michael, I'm in Sacramento as well. Feel free to contact me anytime. I'm not looking to join a team but I'm willing to share ideas, code, or help other GG memebers out when I can.

Thats awesome to hear.

Ryan Croker - I have been to the campus and talked with some indivudals, many who did not seem serious. Finding some serioius individuals would be awesome, and whether be networking, or teaming up is always great!

Ryan Mick - Sounds awesome. I would love to have a Bay Area/Sacramento/mixed/etc meetup to throw ideas around and maybe even (for those interested) get a little something in the works. Let me know your schedule and where about in Sacramento you are and perhaps if you know any other like minded individuals we could all meetup and grab coffee or something in the next month and discuss where the gaming industry is at.

I'm in the Rosemont area, which is near Mather Field, I work in the old bomb shelter under the HQ building on McClellan. As far as a schedule, just let me know when and I'll see what I can do. I know a few people but they are a bunch of lazy asses, so I don't count on them.

I would be very interested in getting together with some like-minded indidevs. Sacramento might be a little far for me to travel because most of my off-work time is devoted to my family, but I work downtown in San Francisco (about 4 blocks from the Academy as a matter of fact) and could do meetups closer to here. I am part of a very active and productive project dedicated to the creation of free game art assets, check it out:

I have worked on virtual teams for so long that it would be great to have a small group of people to meet in person and bounce ideas off each other.

- My fiancee works on Mather and I work around the corner so know that area well and just moved from the Bradshaw area to Folsom where I bought a condo.

- As for coming to San Francisco, I would love to schedule a meetup down there. Last Summer I was trying to open up an office, but unfortunately people flaked. Would still like to collaborate especially with the bay area (since I am from there)

Its a big school :) But let's put it this way, i'm paying my own way and the schools like 14,000 a year. Right now I spend between 10 and 20 hours a week modeling in max but with actual tasks to complete I can push that way up. The problem is the animation and modeling programs are a little weak, but the traditional art stuff, like anatomy and sculpture have been really hard and useful. I spent half this semester modeling bridgman's anatomical drawings in max. I just have little to no knowledge when it comes to programming and need a counterpart there.

Come up with something for me to model and I can get it done in a few hours, pretty much no matter what it is.

To bad you moved from the bradshaw area, I'm by bradshaw and goethe/rosemont dr. I have no real art skills, but I can program. I have submitted a couple of resources and I highly recommend this one www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=9865. I am currently updating the pathed interior resource to 1.4. I have it working, I just have to update map2dif plus. After that I'm going to port it over to TLK 1.4. The next thing on my list is a team manager object. I started writing one in torquescript but it's not working out the way I want it to. I'll be posting that as a resource when it's done. Sometimes it just doesn't seem like there is enough time in the day.

@Ryan Croker, do you have any pics you could share with us? Also, I have a project I'm working on that I need about 6 hillbilly models, do you do contract work? If so please let me know your rate.

This is some of the stuff i've worked on in the last 3 weeks or so. Most of them have been unwrapped but i've yet to skin alot of it. Lot of kinda studies, but im working without real direction. Some of the higher poly stuff is meant for normal mapping, which im learning how to do right now.
