Character export, any good tutorials/docs around?

I'm trying to rig a character and export it to Torque. Like i tought, I ran into a lot of problems. All the info I find around here, is either incomplete, vague or out dated. So can anyone point me to some good tutorials, docs, etc?
Or is anyone around here experienced in exporting characters, and willing to help? With help I do not mean rigging and exporting my character (I want to be able to do this myself), just tell me what I'm doing wrong when i run into a problem. I would really appreciate that.

Yes, I'm a 3d max user. Using max 8 for a while now, but I still have max 7 istalled. Max 8 uses the same exporter as 6 and 7, so I don't think that's a problem.

@Canon: Well... when I tried exporting my character, first the exporter gave me some errors, I was able to fix those, but then the game crashed when i loaded the model. Then I tried to export the example character from the example pack.... that gave me an invisible character. Finally was able to fix that, but still wasn't able to export my own character.
Anyway, I'll follow that tutorial the coming days, and if I run into any problems I'll post here. I really want to be able to rig and export characters (the only thing left to learn before I can make a game on my own ;)).

Erm... please use the search engine here for the words Maya, DTS, and DSQ - you will find similar pages. If you are still stuck let me know here and I will do some scouting for you.

I am having the same problem, I am using maya and can rig and export my character as dts and dsq. They play in my game as a static shape but I cannot get my models to work as the player character. e.g. Instead of Kork. I am finding the lack of information on how to do this very frustrating. If anyone has worked this out I would love some help.
@Natalia M: I had to look over the Reference Guide a few times but eventually got my character rig working. just keep at it. If you want an example of a rigged character I can send you a copy of the test rig I set up. It is not pretty but it may help.
