Problem with directx and demo app.

Howdy all,
Just purchased the SDK today. Looks great so far. I do have 1 nagging problem that the demo app will not switch
to directx. I am running 8.1 DX, Win 98, card is a Visiontek MX200 GE Force.
Tribes 2 demo, crimeforce test all let me pick directx.
What was wierd was at first I could select it then it would crash. Now can't select it at all.
I also tried command line -directX .
