I need a suggestion..

I'm a beginner starting from the complete ground up, and I have no expierience. I would like to learn eventually to program, texture, etc., basically the whole process of game development. Though, I don't yet have enough money to buy TGE, it seems like most of the modeling programs are free, so I need to know: Which of the programs are best for a beginner/just the best over all?

Any replies would be helpful, thanks :)

*edit* I have both a PC and Mac I can use, so anything'll fly.

Your best bet would be to start off playing around with TGE; playing with the scripts, the source, basically working out how things work! Without the knowledge of how the objects/textures act ingame, modelling them will be extreamly difficult.

That being said, Blender (www.blender.org) is a free modelling program - some Torque/Blender video tutorials, which goes through the basics, are available here - www.users.on.net/~symes/gamedev/videotuts/videotuts.html

You may also want to checkout the book 3D Game Programming All-In-One. Goes through the various parts of Torque and builds a game up.
