UnrealED to Torque convertor - ( Unreal Tournament Editor )

by Anthony Potamitis · in Artist Corner · 03/17/2002 (3:05 pm) · 84 replies

Hi Guys,

I have been away in the army so I have lost touch a bit with the GG scene.

I remember hearing that some shifting was going on with the employees from GG and that the people working on the unrealED to torque convertor were leaving.
Just a quick question to find out if the convertor ever got made and how far the progress on it is coming along :)

I remember that it was going to more like a convertor to make the unreal maps to be outputted to a HL format and then converted again to be read by torque. I think???

Does anyone know if the buildings made in unrealED can be outputted to be used in WC by anyway?

Thanks for all your help

Warm Regards,
Anthony Potamitis

From Jeff Tunnel's original post, he said several teams could have a go at it and they'd pick which of those they liked the best (presumably for bundling with torque?). I'd say to go for it--both of you. I'm still considering doing my own "thang", anyway--which basically is the same as what the two of you propose--an IDE.

Nothing like competition to bring out the best (and worst;-)) of people.

If Jeff H. can make a way for those apps to work seemlessley, more power to him. :-)
I'm curious--which of those apps are free for commercial use, and which require a registration fee?

the only app i listed that isnt free & open source is characterFX the anim tool, that costs 15 bucks. since the only real work involved in my idea is the converter, and the converter is useful on its own, im going to proceed with my idea bc i think it'll be implemented faster. plus it takes advantage of existing development being done on member apps by independant, dedicated teams.

i agree that there will be exporting/importing/naming and other issues to iron out, but i expected some bugs to squash anyway.

if the torqued project looks more viable than mine at any point, well, im nothing if not flexible.

btw, i do agree that the ideal is a single app, but i am shooting for what i know i can get done.

David, are you guys thinking of an existing ASCII format or a new one from scratch?
