Best Tree Pack?

by Afrim Kacaj · in Torque Game Engine · 02/22/2006 (5:54 pm) · 10 replies

I am in the market for a tree pack and wanted to know which one you guys think is the best. I am making a Medieval FPS game and plan on having a good amount of trees as well as other objects in the mission so LOD is important. The setting is Europe so no palm trees or banana trees lol.

My criteria are quality, LOD, price, license, quantity, variety... The brave tree content pack is pretty cheesy. I am considering the Sharp Tree pack or the 3D Diggers tree set. Does anyone have an opinion on the two or are there any others that you would recommend.

While I am at it, also looking for medieval buildings...

Yeah the BT tree pack is indeed seriously cheesy. The sharp tree pack is absolutely amazing. Go for it.

Afrim,

Technically its not a tree pack, but I do have a pretty good number of trees in my RTS Environment pack www.garagegames.com/products/82

...technically its not actually an FPS pack, although the objects are fully functional as FPS content, and I did include a number of FPS specific items.

You can download a video form the page linked above to get an idea whether its the style of art you are looking for. Also, you can see shots of all contents here www.subreal.net/promo_rts/Docs_and_Tutorial/docs/itemlistanddescriptions.htm

FYI, there is an Indi and a commercial license available

Todd,

I am also considering your pack down the line. I need the rocks and can make use of most of the stuff in there. I plan on doing a snow theme later, but right now my focus is trees and medieval houses/structures. I have to put together an Easter European medieval village for my first demo release. The theme is greek/ottoman/roman.

I have both the Diggers and the Sharp tree packs. The Diggers come in .dts and have the source models, but the Sharp pack only had the .dts files. The Sharp tree pack may have source files available now, but they are both very nice tree packs. The Sharp pack has Palm and Bannana trees as well as Oaks, Maple etc.., while the Digger pack has only European type trees. I think you will be happy either way.

Loopix trees are very nice in my opinion, and cheap too.
The pack contains the DTS files, as well as a wealth of other formats including 3ds.
Have a peek: www.loopix-project.com

They were pretty large when I imported them, but that's not so important I guess.

I've just purchased a commercial license for the Sharp tree pack and can confirm that they DO come with max and 3ds versions of the files as well as DTS's, there's also other content available for license holders. Worth a look as the trees are very nicely done.

I don't have the 3d-diggers pack, but I have a commercial license for the Sharp tree pack. In my opinion it is very good quality, has souce models, and comes with multiple levels of LOD. He put up some bonus material for the commercial license also - inlcuding bushes and ground cover, and some stumps (no dts on the stumps, that I saw). It's a great buy. Adam Degrandis released some free trees awhile back that are also very good - http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=7024

Arteria gaming have some medieval buildings, no idea how good they are, but the screenshots look nice.
Fruitbatinshades (search) had some that I think were a free download to show of his medieval texture pack.
