MarbleBlast won't run in multiple accounts - Mac OSX
by Jim C · in Marble Blast · 02/18/2006 (6:49 am) · 14 replies
My daughter saw MarbleBlast and wanted to try it out. So, I DL'ed the demo and installed it.
However, it appears that MarbleBlast (or at least the demo) has no concept of "multiple accounts" under Mac OSX. It will only run for accounts with full admin permissions. Normal user accounts cannot play MarbleBlast. I've tinkered with permissions and ownership settings into the wee hours but nothing seems to work.
Is this a glitch with the demo, or does the full retail version also refuse to run for multiple users?
I'm not about to give a 12-year-old Admin rights just to play a game.
Thanks,
Jim C

Unfortunately, I followed the directions, including a reboot. Now all accounts (including admin) are getting the following error:
"Cannot open application MarbleBlaster Gold OSX Demo because it is either damaged or incomplete."
Bummer.

Anyway, my version of MBG was installed on the computer by Apple and is on the install disk as well as hard drive. I created a 'test acct' and can access MBG with the test acct. I guess I don't understand. I thought that any appliication that an administrator adds to the administrator's application folder will show up in any other account.
Maybe this particular bug is just associated with the demo(although it shouldn't) OR the downloaded version.
Good luck solo.
P.S.: I would keep trying because I'm sure your daughter would love to play the game.

Sry Jim! I'm not an administrator here, but some people from GarageGames do drop by here. I hope they have some answers for you. I've noticed in some cases, the fix hasn't worked, but I thought that had to do with issues because of an upgrade to Tiger(not sure ). The game shows up in everyone's folder. It just won't launch for anyone other than the admin...up until the moment I applied the fix. Now no one can open the game.

No problem. I appreciate the help. Maybe I'll try re-installing the demo and the patch. The game shows up in everyone's folder. It just won't launch for anyone other than the admin...up until the moment I applied the fix. Now no one can open the game.

So, I don't know what could be the prob.

I just looked at the info.plist file that comes with the installed MBG. It's exactly the same as the 'fix' plist. Go figure! So, I don't know what could be the prob.

Mac says if you get the message 'does not work with the limitations you have selected' with an application then you have to contact the application developer. Apparently some applications don't work with accounts that have limited access. So that is what I am in the midddle of doing (contacting the application developer). Will let you know if I have any luck.
