Texture question

by Shane "Criimson" Barnett · in Technical Issues · 03/09/2002 (1:24 am) · 2 replies

Hello everyone =)

I have a question about texturing models. I am new to this and am wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions on creating a "hard plastic" look on a model.
I'm not worried about realism in the design.
Would it work if, say, I just made the texture and used made it very reflective?
I can't test it because it will be another week before I can buy the engine, to start testing.

Thank you,
Criimson

I'd suggest looking across the web for tutorials. There are tons of sites with tips for beginners. But it also depends on what application you are using for texture creation (Photoshop, Painter, Paint Shop Pro, etc). Most are 'gimicky' tips, but help you get a better grasp on using the apps. Best thing is to do a search on Google.

There are some tutorials for adding a 'plastic' feel to your art. But it may take a little creativity to swing it in a texture effectively. Using the alpha channel will definitely add the 'shine' to the model and push the effect.

Here's a list of sites I found. Should help to get you started. Good luck! :)

One thing I would do is texture in the little areas that the mold of the object didn't get rid of.

You know what I mean? Around the edges, the little bit of plastic that sticks out?
