Torque Boot Camp--T2D (Commercial)

by Stephen Zepp · in Torque Game Builder · 01/31/2006 (10:54 am) · 9 replies

As a pre-emptive strike to try not to get another thread hijacked, I wanted to comment briefly on our upcoming T2D Boot Camp:

  • March 6-8 2006 in Eugene, Oregon
  • Price is currently TBD, but the initial boot camp is aimed at commercial and educational developers. This doesn't preclude one aimed at Indie budgets in the future, but that probably won't happen until we've been able to absorb the production costs of the course via commercial/educational channels
  • It will primarily focus on T2D systems theory and implementation, use of T2D as a game builder aiming at publishing a casual game, and the "standard flow" for a subset of the possible game genres possible with T2D

  • For further information on the course itself you can certainly ask here! If you would like to discuss attending the course, feel free to contact Davey Jackson (daveyj-at-garagegames.com).

Hey, do you think GG will be putting on more boot camps on a semi-regular basis? I'll be out of the country over the March dates, but would love to try to get to one of these.

The schedule is posted roughly quarterly here.

Currently, March and June are being scheduled, and we're negotiating different venues (with the possibility of different regional areas), but the schedule should be finalized in a few weeks. You can expect a Torque Boot camp for Game Builder roughly every 6 weeks, with some variance (we'll probably have 1 a month in May and June for example).

That's great to hear Jason! Looking forward to meeting you before you head on off to my home away from home, Thailand (I spent quite a bit of time there when I was in the military).

Yup yup, this is the perfect timing for me to go too, so i'm really looking forward to it!

Question about content, what is the expected level-of-expertise for the boot camp?

Also, will I be able to record the event (camcorder) for my private notes?

    Bumping these questions i had....

    1) What is the expected level of expertise for the t2d bootcamp?

    2) Will I be able to record the event (camcorder) for my private notes?

    Thanks,

Sorry, I've been teaching a TGE boot camp this week and haven't had much time to keep up on forums.

    1) Everywhere from "just downloaded" to "been around the block, made a couple of demos". For the highly experienced (you've dug into the source quite a bit IIRC), there will be parts of course that will be review for you, but it's a good class, lots of both theory and hands-on guided development.

There is a LOT of lab time, and we're carefully crafting the labs so that beginning users can accomplish the game, but advanced users can spend their time doing all sorts of enhancements and added "bling" to the lab project. And of course, with Melv travelling to the US just to help kick off the class, you'll be able to pick his brain!

    2) Unfortunately no, we do not allow filming of the class itself.

    Thanks much!

for me, i'm kind of weird that i've spent a lot of time in the engine, but basically no time writing games.

So this will be a very good experience for me either way

    Thanks,

    -Jason
