MBU on 360 - Problem with leaderboards
by Michael Plotts · in Marble Blast · 01/26/2006 (8:02 pm) · 50 replies
It seems that the "friends" portion of the leaderboards is not working properly. See this thread for further details.

You guys have one of the best XBLA games out there (*the* best, imho). But it's seriously tainted by this bug. I have to send friends emails with my high scores so that they know what they need to beat. I'm sure I'm speaking for all when I say a fix would be *very* appreciated by your paying customers. Thank you!

You guys have probably never had the experience of changing a seemingly minor part of a game, and having it cascade down and mess up lots of things. We want to make this fix very precise, so that the only reaction players have is, "Oh cool it works now," and there are no side effects.
Please be patient. The only thing worse than this going unfixed, is fixing it with side-effects.

Stephen posted on the thread on Xbox.com and said that we were aware of the problem, and were addressing it. That is all the information that can be given out now. A title update, even to fix a bug we know how to fix, is not as straightforward as you would think. We do not want to cause any kind of data loss, game instability, or adversly effect the game in any way. Also, we are waiting to see if there are any other issues that come up.You guys have probably never had the experience of changing a seemingly minor part of a game, and having it cascade down and mess up lots of things. Thank you Pat! I wasn't aware that the problem was being addressed, only that you are aware of it. I've learned the hard way that a small coding change can blow everything up, so I understand completely. Just to know a fix is in development is enough to make me happy - thanks for the update! :)

I reduced my friends list down to below ten and it seems to work as a workaround, cos I can see all my friends times now. Had to give it a great go last night and beat all my friends times again ;)

Has this been forgotten about?....coz it seems like it

No - we're just respecting the developer's request that we be patient. Of course, I must admit that my attitude is probably more accurately described as "anxiously patient"... is that an oxymoron? ;-)

MBU is a great game but I'm sick of calling the one person on my friends list that can actually see all of our scores and have him read them to me so I can try to place better than my friends.
At least make it known if a patch is truely being worked on or not. All this I can't say this or that or what is officially being worked on is insulting to the people that bought the game.

I'm starting to think this so called "fix" that was being worked on is not being worked on at all. It shouldn't take 3 months to get a patch out to fix the friends list on the leaderboards. Just take a look at MLB2k6. They were able to get a patch out and have it distributed via live very quickly.MBU is a great game but I'm sick of calling the one person on my friends list that can actually see all of our scores and have him read them to me so I can try to place better than my friends.

I've long ago given up on this patch ever coming out. Even if it came out now it's redundant. It's also -really- soured me on any future GG games since this one was released with so many major bugs and never patched in a timely manner. Live and learn I guess.

^^^Agreed. I think I'm done with GarageGames. I feel like a sucker for believing them.

Guys, we're doing a patch, which will contain several fixes and improvements as well as some other even cooler stuff. We don't have an exact ETA (beyond soon), but when we do we'll let you know. Your patience is much appreciated.- Mark

Ive moved on from Marble Blast ultra now. In the future, I will know to either not purchase games made by garage games or to wait 6 months and then buy them after a patch is out and make sure I read online carefully to see if there is anything wrong with the game.
Seems like everygame I play nowadays needs a patch to work properly. Thats fine and all because you will always have problems, but why does it take so long for these patches? Developers are always bundling a patch with some extra stuff and more bug fiexs that could of waited. Its like their afraid to release 2 patches for a game.
Look at MLB2k6. They patched that within 1 week. Imagine they waited 4 months to patch is but the patch also came with additional content? Thats not how it works. It needs to be patched ASAP, then worry about less important bug fixes (like perhaps the falling through the wooden plank corners)

Well considering a simple friends list patch should of been put out 2 months ago, saying your still working on it but dont even have an ETA is not very good. Thats great your making all those extras which will be "cool". But why couldent we just get this friends patch in the first week it was discovered and then you can make a second patch fixing up other bugs and adding "cool" new stuff.Ive moved on from Marble Blast ultra now. Just keep in mind that very often the developer does not control the release of patches, the publisher does.

Are you really trying to imply that after all this time, MS wouldn't allow you to release a patch of any kind? Come on, give us a little more credit than that. It would've been better if you didn't reply with that response at all.

Do you really think we don't care about this bug? We want it fixed as quickly as possible ourselves--because of the exact complaints a couple of folks are having in this thread right now. Unfortunately, it's more complex than it appears from the outside (even I was surprised to be honest).
05/05/2006 (2:03 pm)
It has nothing to do with allowing/not allowing a release, it has to do with negotiating what goes in it, how it's performed, if it has to go through re-certification, limits and restrictions on the code changes themselves, as well as what other code modifications/game releases/certification processes are going on at Microsoft.Do you really think we don't care about this bug? they're probably just working on their XNA stuff for microsoft instead. i know that i will never purchase a garage games product again.

We're going on just about a year now and still no update or patch. i think garage games has been feeding us a line of BS. i can't remember which interview i read about but i love how someone at garage games said they are working on the patch and new levels for both single and multiplayer...this must be what set back the patch..lol.they're probably just working on their XNA stuff for microsoft instead. i know that i will never purchase a garage games product again.

"patient"... seeing as how it's been 10 months since this was posted, can we stop being patient now?

Mind you its not the only time I am having trouble with xbox live, in gr2 on 360, the game lists are different than if I call it up on the original xbox. Co-op the other night showed no games, but on the original xbox there was loads of em.
PS- you cant actually find this forum on the default forum view without going to view all, this certainly threw me for awhile, maybe it should be near the top?
