How can I use unicode?

by game4Rest · in Torque Game Builder · 01/09/2006 (5:56 am) · 9 replies

Hi all,

While making my own game named "Treasure Hunters" I heard that the latest TGE version now supports unicode(I believe T2D supports it too). That was very good news for me as I was worried about Korean language.

So I have looked up the forum and TDN for some guidance. But I'm afraid I only got little. To make it worse, the content like "http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/TorqueUnicode" was too difficult to understand.

Also I found some talks, which was made before V 1.4, among chinease developers. That was not an easy one either.

So, if TGE supports unicode, would someone tell me what's the procedure to make my Korean players to input their own language and see as they expect? I hope script will be enough as it used to.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think the current T2D release supports Unicode yet.

Your have to wait until they merge T2D with 1.4 or do it yourself...

Understand.

With additional Search, I became to know that unicode is in the short time lists of T2D. But before that, I'm going to find the solution for it. To ask more, I think I have to go TGE forums. When I have done with the
input and output of Korean, i'm going to post the solution here.

Anyway, thank you so much Joseph!

The next release is merged with TGE v1.4 (which supports UNICODE). Apart from that, I know very little about how this works.

Dear Melv,

Good to hear that news. But I am afraid TGE v1.4 is not complete with UNICODE. After some trials and errors, I made a success to display Korean on buttons in TGE demos, but still I can not input Korean during chatting, and as you know, that is indispensible. I hope, when you merge it, you get some support from TGE team to solve that matter.

Thanks alot.

So the user is unable to input asian languages at all in TGE 1.4? This is not good... I was very much looking forward to unicode support, but it seems it won't work well for an online game. Hong Jin, I think the unicode input/chatting support is out of Melv's hands. As far as I know, he must depend fully on the TGE developers to put this into TGE before he can use it, so that TGE and T2D can be fully compatable with each other. But maybe the TGE developers aren't aware of this problem, and can easily put it into TGE.

Dear Dave,

In fact, I left a post regarding this matter in the TGE forum long before. As you said, I am afraid they
haven't found my post. But I am expecting this will be solved when T2D team comes out with new version.
They said unicode support is in the short time list. So, I am waiting for that doing the other parts.

As another Korean developer, I do hope that unicode input method would be soon solved. I think this is partly done since I could at least SEE korean characters with the new version of T2D which was unable to do with earlier versions.

I believe T2D team would tackle this problem soon.

I am looking forward to get this support.
I make games in Chinese language, so I need it.
