Detail problem

I'm using max 8 with Service Pack 1 with the exporter from the max6_7tools.zip.

I've tried this with the green guy and with the great girl model from CubixStudio, with same results.
I've changed nothing in the orginail files.

The dial in the MultiRes modifier is at 100% before exporting.

When I load the models in showTool, the details show up fine when using 'Slider Sets Detail'.

But if I switch to 'AutoDetail Using Distance', it never shows 'below' objectDetail 3,
so it never shows the higher-rez meshs such as objectDetail 2, objectDetail 1, objectDetail 0
iow. it never shows Detail 60, Detail 80 or Detail 145

And I'm zoomed in all the way. If I zoom out, it shows the lower rez meshes.

In the game, using the models in the stock starter.fps (TGE 1.4), the same thing happens... it never shows Detail 60, Detail 80 or Detail 145.

And if I TAB to follow-camera, the screen is filled distorting ploys, like the camera is stuck in the model's head.

You pretty much just answered this yourself. Take a look at your lowest detail level. 3

I would have to say if you need lower add lower numbers.

I meant it never shows 'below' objectDetail 3,

The higher the detail number, the higher the mesh polys. If I'm understanding this you have it backwards?

No, I don't think so.

According to the dump file, shown above, the detail meshes are being generated and numbered properly.
And they run as expected in ShowTool when using 'Slider Sets Detail'.

But if I use 'AutoDetail Using Distance' then the higher meshes are never shown.
Zooming in all the way, it never shows a mesh beyond Detail30.

And in-game shows the same behavior - it nevers shows the high poly meshes.

Oh I got ya
Run your mesh through UNMESSDTS. That will solve your problem.

The showtool pro has the setup to ignore the added data to the mesh (not sure what it is) but the engine still recognizes it so your mesh gets screwed up in game. Its real simple to use.
You can download it at : Torque max filepack. The download comes from the docs and includes the greenguy i think. You might already have it.

I wish they would fix that...

thank you so much for purchasing my female pack :D,

about the LOD, i tried it on my PC with Torque Showtool and it seems to work just fine, i record what i did and you can watch here in quicktime movie (LOD slider keeps changing according to the pixel size) :

and also i remember last time i pressed "ALT+C" key in Torque FPS Demo to see if the LOD works, and it also work ok in the demo game.

So i'm not really sure about this, i hope GG community can gives us pointers :D

Evi@ You probably don't have problem with the model you just need to use Unmess with the MAX6,7,8 exporter. No biggy. He rexported you model with that exporter so he has to use Unmess.
