New Site Update

by Kyle Carter · in Torque Developer Network · 01/07/2006 (1:18 am) · 30 replies

As I've noted in my .plan, I've uploaded new site code (synching with latest MediaWiki 1.5.5). I'm going to be merging in some new features in the coming weeks, hopefully including voting, as well as bringing Elixir online (finally! ;).

Please report any problems you run into. Login issues are further resolved but there still seem to be some problems people are encountering, so any data you can give to help me identify the problem would be much appreciated! Also, please give all of the site features a try, if you can, to make sure nothing broke as part of the update.

Thanks,
Ben

Hello,

I'm a new user and I keep getting this error when I try to sign into TDN. (Dalore) Acount name

Database error
From TDN
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "User::addToDatabase". MySQL returned error "1062: Duplicate entry 'David' for key 2 (localhost)".
Retrieved from "http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Special:Error"

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey David,

Thanks for posting! I've applied a fix that should prevent this problem from coming up again. Give it a try now - if it doesn't work, let me know.

Thanks for letting me know.

Ben

I just tried it again. I get the same message. I have tried as some of the fourms suggest and waited a minute or two between tries, no help.

I don't know it this may have some cause / effect.

1. I signed up for my account before I bought my products.
This is to say I attempted a log on before I owned it in hopes of reading more before I bought.

2. I bought TGE, TSE, RTS-Starter kit but my profile only shows TGE owner.

Any help would be appreciated.

I need to do some reading on how to compile TSE with Visual Studio 97, Yea I know it's old.

This issue is unrelated to time. It's a duplicate name in the database causing a collision. Hmm. I'll have to do some checking on my end. You might want to try changing your displayed name on the site (first line at www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=my&mod=home&page=edit) to something more unique, as that would prevent the problem.

Thanks Ben, this solved the problem I was having too.

That seemed to do the trick Ben. Thanks I would have never thought of that.

Hi Ben,

Sorry to be a pain, but I still am not able to edit the wiki as I mentioned on the TDN forum. The edit page comes up but the text box is blank, no content. Using Firefox 1.5 which was working fine with the wiki until yesterday (well, that's the first time I'd tried in a week or so but you get the drift).

Just had a chance to read your plan, fantastic that you'll be back on Atlas and the editors!

Dave.

Thanks for following up on this issue, I did not have it on my list!

Are you clicking the edit link in the red bar on the very top right of the page, or the one near the text you want to edit? The latter are for convenience but frequently don't work right - they will probably be going away soon.

Ah right, I'll try the link at the top and update this. Thanks.

No luck sorry to say. The link in the red bar gives me a couple of "{{template:xxx}}" lines that's all, and no scrollbar to go further down the page.

Tried again today, but still no luck. I can see a bunch of template links at the bottom of the page, but when I click one I get the contents, and no apparent way of editing it.

@Dave: what exact page are you trying to edit?

You're clicking the link with the red box on it, right, not the blue one?

@Stephen and @Ben:

I know exactly what Dave is describing, it happens to me too.

Try editing http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Torque2D for instance.

Though there is a workaround.

after clicking 'edit' and geting the {{template}} garbage, click the Template:T2DScript link underneith that will take you to the 'real' page to edit.

That was what I suspected--I think that's an artifact from early utilization of templates within the wiki. Most of the pages (other than those landing pages) will bring up the actual content of the page directly when you hit the Edit button that Ben demonstrates above.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay replying, I've been frying my brains trying to learn shaders all week, 7.30 in the morning to 8 at night. Haven't had the energy to check the forum.

I've already tried clicking the link for the template (I mentioned it in a post above somewhere). It doesn't work for me, it just displays the formatted contents of the template as a straight web page and I can't edit it. I can't insert the cursor anywhere to edit, there are no links to edit etc.

I tried again this morning after reading your posts above, in case I was missing something. I did notice the edges of two sort of rounded brackets sticking slightly out from under the contents. I clicked one and it took me to a page of info about an image which I presume is on the page. So I can only assume that the browser is displaying the page contents over the top of the editable material. I've tried with Mozilla and Internet Exploder, with the same results.

The page I am trying to edit is this one (I click on the edit link in the red bar)
http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/TorqueShaderEngine

That takes me here
http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/index.php?title=Torque_Shader_Engine&action=edit

I click the link at the bottom to the TSEScript template and get sent here
http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Template:TSEScript

That is the page that will not let me edit it.

Cheers,

Dave.

It's just protected. Hold over from earlier days on TDN. I've unprotected it now, you should be able to edit no problem.

Ben, thanks! Got the player console dump up there after all this time :-)

Working on putting together an idiot's guide to what newbies need to learn about custom shaders and in what order (while I'm still an idiot and remember the pain).

I got some site bugs to post, stored in my profile. Maybe these are only valid for old user accounts?

- can not delete old Work Samples (chown files?). They seem to delete but come back when you view profile.
- can not enter 'delete' into the Upload Box for Personal Photo on Opera, can not delete in IE either anyway due to related issue with Work Samples probably. Typing 'delete' in a file input box shows an error "can not find file dlete'.
- can not delete Personal Icons, no options to.
- can not add New Work Samples
- can not prevent Comments on Blog
- Thumbnails for old Projects need rebuilding, some(?) are assigned to the wrong projects. http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=marketplace&page=result.project&qdn=^3253 shows a thumbnail but it is not for that project.
- there are two Think Tanks Personal Icons that are the same.

IMPORTANT
- Can not create a new Project, can only create a Company. There are no links for it.

I am not sure if this is the right place. When I click on a TDN site nothing happens. My page just waits a long time and then a blank website comes up or an error page comes up. Is there something I need to enable on my browser to get this to show up. I havent tried to use TDN for like six months maybe but I used to be able to go on the site around when it first started up. Thanks for your time and help.
