TGE 1.4 demo not working??
by Juuso - Polycount Productions · in Torque Game Engine · 01/04/2006 (9:53 am) · 9 replies
I downloaded the TGE demo (ftp://demos.garagegames.com/tge/TorqueDemo-Installer-1-4.exe)
Installed it.
Launched it: black screen blinks... and then I go back to windows.
(computer starts loading.... I can see "demo.exe" process in Windows Task Manager (takes 13meg to 150 meg memory)... but - nothing else happens.)
Any idea why this could be?
(I tried to start using command prompt -mission etc. tried also with openGL option enabled - still nothing).

Strange - does this mean that it cannot detect my video card? TGE has worked on my computer previously. Oh my... should I try to update my video card drivers or something? I can play games... like Battle for Middle Earth etc.... and DirectX9c works nicely on my computer.

Looks like it's trying to tell you that you don't have a video card - or at least not one that can run Torque.

Bottom line, you simply don't have your opengl drivers installed. Grab the latest, greatest from nvidia.com.

Video driver details:
Date: 10.12.2005
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
DirectX 9.0 or better (basically I have DX9c)
ForceWare: 81.89
---
Same thing happens. I just won't work :(
Tested with some DX9 games... they worked fine.
Just downloaded ThinkTanks - tested: crashed. It won't work.
I now try to get OLD drivers back... let's see what happens.

I don't understand just what is going on with nvidia here lately, their backwards compatiblity has just gotten so pretty crappy here for the past several months.
Update:
Well looks like the 8x.xx series drivers are causing a lot of pain on the nvidia driver forums. Problems are: video component options disappeared, dual-core optimizations causing crashs, OpenGL and Direct3D rendering problems, a lot more BSoDs, and Photoshop & Paint Shop Pro artist tools are fobared due to some bug in the drivers (interesting huh? ;).

I also have a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64MB AGP 8X card made by PNY Technologies and I have noticed that the 81.xx series drivers from nvidia break OpenGL terribly. Earlier ones would allow OpenGL to actually work, but rendering of textures just went completely nuts and it was quite noticable, but the only thing that does fix it is by downgrading to 71.xx series drivers. I am currently running 71.84 version drivers and they work perfectly fine for DirectX 9c and OpenGL 1.5 games.I don't understand just what is going on with nvidia here lately, their backwards compatiblity has just gotten so pretty crappy here for the past several months.

I had ASUS card in my computer... now I took away the drivers for that card (not sure if it messes up something, even when they are not in use...)
I try now one time more... fingers crossed...

I made a rollback (cannot remember the driver version... it was from year 2004 anyway). Did not work :(I had ASUS card in my computer... now I took away the drivers for that card (not sure if it messes up something, even when they are not in use...)
