Issues running example demo

by Ian Morrison · in Torque Game Engine · 12/25/2005 (12:29 pm) · 5 replies

I recently downloaded the Torque SDK. However, I can't run the example demo. When I try to start it up (double clicking on the exe) it pauses for a second, and then it decides to encounter some kind of error and close.

If I hit the "debug" button on the popup, I see the Unhandled Exception error that instilled a sense of dread in me in my Tribes 2 days.

My specs:
Windows 98
AMD Athlon 1.4 ghz processor
Geforce 2MX
512 mb RAM

Anyone have a clue what might be causing this problem for me? I remember running the torque demo fine in the past, though I'll admit that was some time ago.

Look in the console.log file and see if there are any errors. It should be located in the main directory. Have you updated your drivers (or installed the ones from Windows Update) for your 2MX?

I probably don't have the most up to date drivers on my Geforce 2... this computer isn't my gaming rig so stuff like that gets neglected somewhat. I'll update them.

The log file is extremely long, and though I can see a number of outright errors, those are all specific to models or scripts that I doubt are having any effect. The only thing that looks like a relevant error is this line:

CDROP: 1798 IPX:38000000:420000002302:0

Which raises more questions than it answers. After that point, opengl shuts down and everything is released.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if the console.log file is being written to. If I rename it, no new file is created.

Updating my drivers has not fixed the problem.

Sorry to triple post, but I think its a good idea to bring up the fact that the Torque Demo also refuses to run from a fresh install.

Try installing this: Microsoft Layer for Unicode.
