Concept sketches

Well I've finally start working on my prototype and have started sketching up concepts for it.
The "game" is a simulation of the life and times of our early ancestors during the last Ice Age. I'm still working on a title for it since "Tribes" is already taken ;)
Here's an early sketch for one of the characters:

Concept for the title screen:

I'll be working up a plan shortly and hope to have a basic working prototype with basic assets mid January all being well. I'll be posting more design work as I go and welcome any and all feedback. Costumes are taking the time right now as new information is replacing the traditional rough hide draping the body look.
Cheers!

After a hiatus of a few months while I worked on other projects, I'll be ramping this one up again and seeing it through to final release. I'll be posting a new blog shortly and all feed back is as always, very welcome :)

I agree with you Jack. I've been doing research myself and have found that the "shaggy primitive" is a hold over from the turn of the last century. This opens some wonderful doors for design given the materials available etc. I will be taking a stylized approach to the design and focus on a target audience of between 10 - 16 year olds (both genders). What will be interesting is balancing accuracy and game play but I'm up to it I think (hope) :)After a hiatus of a few months while I worked on other projects, I'll be ramping this one up again and seeing it through to final release. Definetly looks awesome. Good topology, and great textures. it really makes the model so much nicer looking.

Hair/beard styling has always had cultural significance.
The re-enactments you see with dirty proto-humans with scraggly hair, probably isn't that accurate.
If you look at footage and photos of actual primitive/tribal peoples you'll see that people in all walks of life tend to 'dress their best.' Paint, tattoos, clothing, jewelry, all bear levels of sophistication that we don't normally see in pop culture films and re-enactments
But in the end, you're making a game. you can create any kind of world you want. :)
