Complete MMORPG Development Guide

by Dreamer · in Torque Game Engine · 12/20/2005 (3:02 am) · 594 replies

Hello everyone.
I have the MMORPG Advanced Tutorials completely rewritten for TGE 1.4, with all kinds of new features.
The new tutorial series is called "The Complete MMORPG Development Guide"
It is meant to take a person from the earliest stages of developing a game Conceptualization, Design Docs etc to a ready to ship MMO.
I am in the process of transcribing it to my site at mydreamrpg.com
This will be the final incarnation of the guide until there is a TSE for linux, at which time I will again do a port.
To access the development portions of the site as well as the code sections of the guide you will need to be a current TGE licensee. (currently you will need to be verified by emailing me after registration)

I am also launching a game based on the tutorials, as well as a second site DreamRPGOnline devoted exclusively to the game.

The guide is meant to be a living document and as new and better ways are discovered of doing things, it will be updated by the community that is building up around it.

A secondary goal is to provide a plethora of content for people looking to create rich worlds using the MMORPG enchancement kit I will be providing at no charge, as well as an open market for up and coming artists and coders to sell their content to help subisdize their own game development desires.

I want to stress upfront that this site is NOT meant to compete in anyway with garagegames, in fact to access the vast majority of content on the site you will need to be a TGE licensee.
In fact it is my strong desire to spur sales here of indie games and content, and to increase the interest and awareness of crossplatform indie created games.
I also (quite intentionally), make heavy use of content and packs which can only be purchased here at garagegames.com
Without these packs the full richness of the guide and MMORPG enchancement kit cannot truely be experienced.

I hope everyone here enjoys the site and at least comes to pay us a visit.
We will be doing a load test and server burn in on our game servers as soon as I have enough users on the site who wish to participate and I could sure use your help in doing this.

Regards,
Dreamer

Ok you are activated.
The kit is currently distributed via SVN, you should click this URL to read the tutorial on how to properly setup an SVN client on your computer and read more on the particulars of accessing the kit.

Tommorow we will have a downloadable installer too for those who don't want to be on the bleeding edge ;)

Ok folks, anyone who signed up for the kit (i.e. clicked the paypal link), today and cannot access SVN with the username and password PayPal gave you. Please email me directly smorrey@gmail.com with the subject CANNOT LOGIN TO SVN and include in the email the login credentials that paypal gave you to the repository. I will have to add some of you by hand due to an issue when I updated the webserver this morning.
Sorry about that guys I will get it rectified immediately.

Yeah Sam I caught you as you came in, just happened to be admining the site, anyways use the credentials PayPal gave you for accessing SVN and the sbacsa login for the rest of the site. Email me privately if you have any issues with SVN access and the PayPal credentials, since we did have that little hiccup for a few hours, but now it appears to be resolved, still can't be too careful.

Eitherway,
Welcome to the site!

@Andrew

To be a part of the early adopter, you need to first have a Paypal account to pay the subscription fee with. If you do not already have one, head over to http://paypal.com and create one.

Next, you need to register at http://mydreamrpg.com - Use the same email as your Garagegames account, and you will be authenticated into the "TGE Owner" account level.

Once you have done this, click on the Dream Member link. (Specifically http://www.mydreamrpg.com/mod/resource/view.php?id=25)

Use the "subscribe" button. You'll be redirected to the page where you can login and pay with your paypal account. Please notice that if you are not verified with paypal your payment can take a few days longer. To verify, You should add a bank account to your paypal and wait for them to make a couple small deposits to it. That usually takes around 1-2 business days, then you need to type in the amounts they deposited into the page on the paypal website, and voila! You are verified and ready to pay.

Once you have subscribed to the Dream Member access, you will be given an SVN Account right away. For details on how to download from the SVN, please check here: http://www.mydreamrpg.com/course/view.php?id=4

Thanks, and we appreciate your interest in the early adopter.

@Joshua

To have access to the kit's download, you need to either:

Subscribe as a dream member for 10.00/month to the MyDreamRPG Website (as explained above).

or

Wait until later today and make the purchase of the complete kit on the new website which is coming very soon, for $99.00 USD.

Hey Luke, we could sure use ya today man! It's really, really busy and thread watching is taking valuable brain cycles better spent debugging.
I asked cam to come in really quickly and play catchup but as you can he's not quite got it down, and I need him to finish up the new website anyways.

Please come back to us, you are missed esp on this thread and in IRC.

Regards,
Dreamer

p.s. Your wife will say it's ok.

I registered awhile back before you moved over to your new site or portal. It couldn't find my account, so I registered again - this was awhile ago again.
Just reset my password, seeing as I forgot it.
Here to say that my username is "Tom" and I own TGE. (Along with T2D.)
Plan on subscribing to your kit later on today. :)

Thanks,
- Tom.
