Complete MMORPG Development Guide

Hello everyone.
I have the MMORPG Advanced Tutorials completely rewritten for TGE 1.4, with all kinds of new features.
The new tutorial series is called "The Complete MMORPG Development Guide"
It is meant to take a person from the earliest stages of developing a game Conceptualization, Design Docs etc to a ready to ship MMO.
I am in the process of transcribing it to my site at mydreamrpg.com
This will be the final incarnation of the guide until there is a TSE for linux, at which time I will again do a port.
To access the development portions of the site as well as the code sections of the guide you will need to be a current TGE licensee. (currently you will need to be verified by emailing me after registration)
I am also launching a game based on the tutorials, as well as a second site DreamRPGOnline devoted exclusively to the game.
The guide is meant to be a living document and as new and better ways are discovered of doing things, it will be updated by the community that is building up around it.
A secondary goal is to provide a plethora of content for people looking to create rich worlds using the MMORPG enchancement kit I will be providing at no charge, as well as an open market for up and coming artists and coders to sell their content to help subisdize their own game development desires.
I want to stress upfront that this site is NOT meant to compete in anyway with garagegames, in fact to access the vast majority of content on the site you will need to be a TGE licensee.
In fact it is my strong desire to spur sales here of indie games and content, and to increase the interest and awareness of crossplatform indie created games.
I also (quite intentionally), make heavy use of content and packs which can only be purchased here at garagegames.com
Without these packs the full richness of the guide and MMORPG enchancement kit cannot truely be experienced.
I hope everyone here enjoys the site and at least comes to pay us a visit.
We will be doing a load test and server burn in on our game servers as soon as I have enough users on the site who wish to participate and I could sure use your help in doing this.
Regards,
Dreamer

I just want to start off first and say that the new site design Dreamer is amazing, and the paid service is well worth the money. I started off trying the free trial, and almost instantly after downloading the first SVN revision and getting on the IRC server and chatting it up with the core people I was hooked. I will be a paid member for a long time to come. The value for your dollar is more then in the favor of the customer. But shortly after calming down from the excitement, i realized a fatal loop hole. That is the free trial offered. Not only does this give you total access to the Enhancement Kit, but makes it so that you in essence could steal all of Dreamer's and others hard work. This is very detrimental to this type of community, and to dreamer for having to shell the bill for bandwidth and hard work lost. I for one vote to cancel the Free trial, and move for some type of demo game available without access to key source code. That way they can log in to Dreamer's server and pork around and see the worth first hand, without dreamer getting robbed blind. I also think that even with a $10 a month subscription he is still loosing IMO. He should do like GG is doing and charge an upfront fee before allowing any type of download of the source code. This will insure that you will get people who will not just pay $10 and then steal all the source and possibly post it on the net for other people to steal. I for one have used the free trial, but will be staying on for a good long time while developing my game. I would also pay a one time fee to support the community and Dreamer's overhead of bandwidth and server costs.
Just my 2 cents, but I would hate to see such hard work go down the drain and such a good community get taken advantage of. Cause in all reality they are not just stealing from Dreamer, they are stealing from me as well.
So Dreamer, I vote to cancel the Free Trial right away and release something else to show the worth of what you have done. Because it is sure worth more then $10 or free!
Thanks,

Actually at first I was for a free trial. But I have since changed my oppinion. I know the kind of time that has gone into this code as well as the free models and artwork. Too many people out there have no qualms with taking what they want with no consideration of the work and cost others have put into something of this magnitude. $10.00 a month to get this code and its daily updates it already enough of a steal. I vote to drop the free trial Dreamer.

I would tend to agree with Ryan. I'm one of the contributors and I don't make anything from this kit by choice. Ticks me off to see people join the community, download the kit and then bail right away. The free trial was a way for you to view the benefits of the total package, not just the code and if you can't even give it a chance, then you shouldn't be stopping by. This is a community about supporting others, not taking when the cookie jar is open and bailing. Shut down the free trial, if people want help building an MMO, they should pay for it and support the efforts of those who have spent countless hours contributing code and content.

I vote to get rid of the trial!

I have to agree, I dont understand how you can steal from someone who has worked his butt off to make somthing for everyone to use...for 10 dollars a month. Its very sad, those who do steal should be ashamed of yourselves. This is just simply an amazing kit, and the "customer support" if you will by the community, who doesnt get paid for their time, is phenominal. I vote to get rid of the free trial, 10 bucks is in no way expensive considering we could be paying 50-100 bucks. I vote to GET RID of the free trial. Its doing absolutly no good besides letting those who wish to steal do so.I vote to get rid of the trial!

Ok everyone, this thread is near 400 posts long, and was meant for us to have a quick and easy way to cross refference and make sure we didn't end up giving people access to SDK source code via the tutorials by accident. (Actually originally it was just meant to let people know I was re-working the tutorials and going to release a kit).LOL 375 posts and still growing, what a community this is. ;)

Heya. My name is Joe and I am a registered owner of TGE. I was wondering if you could set me up so I can poke around in the nice content pack your team has created. I am interested in making a sci fi tech/magic game and I believe your system may be able to save me oodles of time.
