Hello,
In the following it's a brief description of what we have in mind. More important, we want to know if this can be done with this game engine - Torque TSE. I hope you won't feel offended, but I just found about this engine and I would like more opinions.
Project name:
It will be chosen later.
Brief description:
MMORPG - Inocentric wants to assembly a team to work on a different approach to MMORPG game. Considering the size of the MMORPG industry, it's probably hard to be original. But we will have a great SF writer working with us and we are very enthusiast with the world he will create. Also, we would like to introduce some new elements in MMORPG world.
Target aim:
The game(client-side) will be free to download, the users will pay on monthly basis to play.
In the first phase - 6 months - we have to produce a very light demo (I will explain later what 'light' means). Inocentric will need this to start advertising and, if necessary, to lobby for supplementary funding.
Compensation:
Inocentric wants to offer the team, percentage of revenue following this algorithm: The project will have 3 phases. At the beginning of each phase, new members will join (there will be all sorts of tasks and a lot of work - the team will have to grow). Each team member gets 1.5%(from revenue) per phase. If you are recruited in the first phase, then at the end of the project (if you resist till the end) you will have 4.5% of the revenue; if you join in the second phase you'll finish with a 3% of the revenue. All the team members will have to sign contracts.
Technology:
We appreciate the OGRE capabilities, but this subject is opened to discussions. Same thing for programming languages (we prefer Visual C++) and anything else related. Only one thing is certain: the server will be developed for Linux platforms and the client for Windows 2000/XP/2003/upcoming Vista platforms.
Talent needed:
In the first phase the team needs 1 coder for the server-side, 1 for the client-side (including handling the engine/framework will choose), 1 world designer and 1 project manager. For the next 2 phases will be recruiting when the time comes, but all quilified and experienced coders and artists are welcomed.
Team structure:
There is no team at this moment. What Inocentric will do is to offer the proper legal environment and resources for developing this game. At this moment, resources mean hosting capabilities for game website, forum, mails and the game server. During the game development, Inocentric will support small but constant advertising campains. Also, when the project gets to the final phase Inocentric will start looking for proper distribution channels.
Website:
At this moment is none - after the project name is chosen Inocentric will acquire the .com domain(if available).
Additional Info:
The game will be placed in a SF environment: somewhere between the BattleStar Galactica and Dune universe. The action takes place on planets surface (same as any other rpg game) and in space, fixed space-stations and space-ships.
Please, continue discussing about this on the project's forum.
Thank you,
Andrei Ciubotaru
