Error: Bone missing from shape

by D.Isaac · in General Discussion · 12/12/2005 (2:12 pm) · 3 replies

I've tried numerous times to export my animation sequence from Max7 with no luck. If I use a Biped and Physique the animation does not export. If I use a Biped or Bones and skin the mesh, I consistently get the "Error: Bone missing from shape" error msg. I've searched through the forum threads but I could not locate a definitive answer or fix. Can anyone help the noob?

You probably didn't look too hard as this problem has been covered numerous times. The short answer is one of two things: A) The CFG file that you are using is telling the exporter that you don't need a paricular bone that is in use by the Skin modifier. As such correct your CFG. or B) The CFG is telling the exporter that it needs a bone that is not in use or does not exist in your scene. As such fix your skin modifier.

Thank you, for the quick response! I know it's me be but I still didn't see it. After a good nights sleep and a new pot of coffee I'll start from scratch. I know I need to better understand the .cfg file. Creating the file from max does not reference any bones, and my first attempts were useless. Thanks again.

There is also a great Max DTS Exporter section in the FAQs that is worth a read if you get a chance and are stuck.
