New Torque user needs help with CVS

by Brian Parr · in General Discussion · 12/08/2005 (10:17 am) · 12 replies

I am new to Torque programming but I have been programming in C/C++ and Java for years. I read the Development section on the website (http://www.realmwarsgame.com/dev/cvs.shtml) but was unable to find a version of winCVS 1.2 and the new version 2.0.2.4 is vastly different from the one described on the website. Can anyone send me a link to the old version or tell me how to use the new version to access the information. Thank you for your time.

It is much easier to just grab the installer .exe from your "My Account" page (top right corner of the website). At the moment there isn't anything in CVS that isn't included in the installer and they rarely are all that different for long.

I was looking for the Realm Wars code so I could contribute to the project. I have all the Torque info but was looking for the RW code which was stated to be located on the CVS server which I was having trouble accessing due to an update of software but lack of update in instructions. Again thank you for your time.

Realm Wars has had an extensive facelift and the changes haven't made it into CVS, I believe.

Where would I optain this new code then if not from the CVS?

    It isn't publicly available.

You would have to talk to the Realm Wars team about licensing it (it is going to cost $$$).

If you really can't figure out how to set up the newer versions of WinCVS, older versions are still available from their SourceForge project page. Just click on the "files" link and scroll down the page.

Although Realm Wars 2 is not publically available, the earlier version should still be useful for learning purposes.

Although this thread is a year old, I also would like to download the (old) Realm Wars source to learn how sword swing trails where added. I have downloaded WinCVS 1.2 and followed the CVS instructions on the realm wars site but receive the following error:
cvs [login aborted]: connect to cvs.garagegames.com:2401 failed: Connection timed out

If anyone would be able to help, thanks in advance.

I am curious why the CVS repo is no longer accessible?

We had updated the files in there to Torque 1.3 (ok, yes its old, but hey it still works and its easy to upgrade or change) as well as fixed numerous things up. Also to be honest it was probably one of the better resources out there for new Torque licensees since they had full access to everything plus more (ie. additional source files for art and code), including a lot of things that were never ripped out and resourced by 3rd parties.

Guess this is the final death blow to RW... might as well just kill these forum threads.
