I have recently downloaded the torque SDK and have been trying to compile the engine code with little success, I was wondering about the best way to do this and how to use the Makefile or the targets.torque.mk on a windows machine.

I suggest downloading Visual C++ Express 2005 from Microsoft's website. If you can't get Visual C++ (version 7 or higher) You could use Cygwin's tools. Search these forums for more information on both products (and how to get them to work with Torque).
