Looking for a multiplayer shooter tutorial

by Highlander · in General Discussion · 11/28/2005 (2:55 pm) · 12 replies

Hello,

I haven't yet plucked down the $100 for a license. First, I'm looking for a tutorial where you create a simple multiplayer game where you can join a game and shoot at each other. Blocks that shoot each other is fine. So far I haven't found one. Is there such a tutorial?

Regards,
Mike

Have you checked out the demo? Because what your describing here is pretty much included in the torque demo. Also when you buy the lisence you get the "starter.fps" which is pretty much a cut down example of the demo that includes multi player, player controls, a simple weapon and effects, and much much more... If I'm not folowing you correctly please tell.

You could also read the book, 3D Game Programming All in One.

It shows you how to use Torquescript and basic modeling and texturing.

I looked at that book at the bookstore, but it seemed more of a reference than a step-by-step tutorial of putting a simple game together. Can I see the torque demo before buying a license?

Just look at the Torque product page (http://www.garagegames.com/pg/product/view.php?id=1)
And if you want a really good example, look at the Dark Horizons: Lore game, its awesome(though not completely what I would call a first person shooter), then theres ThinkTanks, which is an adciting third -person shooter, but still not really an FPS, but they both show you the power of Torque

Take your pick:
Torque Game Engine demo
Torque Shader Engine demos
Torque 2D Demo

All three are complete game engines (some people thought TSE was just an add-on for TGE)

Need to learn to crawl and walk before you run man. Can't just buy TGE and crank out a AAA multiplayer shooter
without learning the basics (unless you pay people to do all the content).
Get the book and the advanced version and read everything on the website.

Uhh...I'm beginning to notice a recurring pattern in your recent posts =) The torque demo is a free download and you do not need to buy the license to download it. The demo includes a working example of a multiplayer FPS game.

OK so I went on Amazon and checked out the book again, and found out that I had looked through *Advanced* 3D game programming all-in-one... Now I have in my hands on the correct one.

Thanks for the links- keep em coming!

No he's right I think my brain added the 30 days. But If someone is normally asking me I say "download the demo".
