Fast Lane Carnage IRC

(This is a light hearted forum post)

Hey everyone,

There appears to be a TGE game called Fast lane Carnage which has just had a demo released. Now, I haven't managed to track down the demo (due in part to my somewhat rusty German), but it appears that it has an IRC client in it and it also appears that the IRC client gives you a list of registered channels on the MaxGaming (GarageGames) IRC server and lets you select one to connect. This means that several semi-private game dev channels are now prone to being joined by slightly confused germans shouting:

Quote: WANT TO PLAY??

I actually find this quite amusing, but I thought I'd write an open letter to the creators of FLC informing them of the possibly unintended effects of their IRC system. Ironically enough, #fastlanecarnage is empty.

Well said Ian. I know that there are quite a lot of us on the IRC servers that are getting annoyed at the lack of end user support that the Fast Lane Carnage developers have given to their players and how they have basicly offloaded them onto the GG development community on IRC. In many ways I find this to be very disrespectful not only of the IRC community (and as such the GarageGames Community) but also of the players that are attempting to play Fast Lane Carnage.

As such I want to respectfully ask that the Fast Lane Carnage developers fix their IRC implementation and please try to properly support their end users (ie. setup and maintain a proper channel for your players, provide them information on where and how to play, have active servers running, play the game with their players, etc.). Your actions, or lack of, have become very distruptive, and although Max Gaming does not mind that games use the IRC server (though we would really appreciate knowing this in advance), we do take concern if what you are doing disrupts the server in any way, shape or form.

And no offense, but using the Max Gaming IRC for your in-game IRC is not ok with us, unless you have express written concent. As much as some people think its a free stomping ground, we have it up for our own use, and the benefit of the GG community only.

Yeah, I'd personally suggest using a channel on Quakenet if you can't host your own.

True these things do cost money to support and run.
