Eclipse and 1.4 Compile/Setup Help ?
by Archies · in Torque Game Engine · 11/27/2005 (1:42 pm) · 10 replies
Hello GG Ladies and Gents,
I've been away for a while and popped back the other day and was "Delighted" to find that 1.4 had been released, i wasnt too far along with my work in 1.3 so im happy to welcome 1.4 and all its changes with open arms, my dilema at the moment is as follows as im sure there must be a few people using "Eclispse" for compiling.
How do i setup 1.4 for use with eclipse ?
Is there a TBE ready for 1.4 ?
I'd greatly appreciate any help in setting this up and getting working compile, looking forward to your replies help and input.
Thank you.

If you're on windows, have you tried VS 2k5? Free, and fairly easy to get up and going.

The linux makefiles in 1.4 aren't 100% up to date yet, when the linux installers are out the makefiles should be.If you're on windows, have you tried VS 2k5? Free, and fairly easy to get up and going.

Ok been trying for last few hours and im miffled, ive a"uninstalled" everything, back to square 1 with no tbe, eclipse, vsk2005 or anything installed as ive pulled my hair out reading threads and following numerous bits and pieces and still ending up with zilch. At one point (5 months ago) i had Eclipse working and compiling fine which took me ages then so i hope you can understand how frustrated i am currently and being shot in the head and having to go back 10 steps to move forward 1 :(.
I really hope somebody will offer some advice "From Scratch" and as to use Eclipse again or Vsk2005 im not really bothered as long as i can get a working compile and i can go about my business, like i said ive read lots of threads and following them is not easy as people seem to be doing different things with so many contradictions.
I know it maybe asking to much but im sure there is more than just me out there whos having this problem moving forward to 1.4 can "GG" or somebody please give soem form of "Step by Step" please from a blank hdd and what to install and what to change in order to get a compile again with this update.
Thank you.

And this? www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=8853 This one is for RC2, not 1.4 final, so I'd only look at it with an eye for suggestions if the first resource doesn't work.
I've seen several people work that out succesfully, though they've had to read through the comments in some instances.

Apart from vsk2005 and the Tge 1.4 sdk, is there anything i will need to follow these 2 threads and get a working compile ?
Thx again, much appreciated.
11/28/2005 (3:32 pm)
Yes i read them both, those were the 2 main threads i was talking about in my previous post. Now ive removed all i will attempt to work through those 2 topics yet again and see if i can make forward motion although im still a little unsure on certain parts for instance, as to whether i am still working or need to install TBE ? as one of the errors i got referenced windows.h file and the only location i could find that was within the directories of TBE (its subs) i never found any reference to windows.h in my SDK of 1.4 so this is a part which im still confused on which is probbaly amplifying my general problem of getting a compile to work.Apart from vsk2005 and the Tge 1.4 sdk, is there anything i will need to follow these 2 threads and get a working compile ?
Thx again, much appreciated.

Hello folks, well for any of you reading this youll be happy to hear that i got a successful compile following the two threads mentioned above, Thank you "Ben Garney" for your input also as it highlited to me that it was me rather than procedure what was incorrect and allowing to my failure of compiling. I think after i had spent the morning trying various things i had actually messed up my entire sdk platform and i had file here and there and obviously not in the right place.
So this is a little "Thank You and a Yes It Works" thread for all those like me who may or may not be having this problem also.
Thx folks and happy compiling.

What does the below mean in the TBE ? I'm bouncing back and fourth like a chicken with its head cut of trying to get this to compile in one of these many resources :( Think i'm wearing the uninstall and install buttons out make -k clean all

Not sure what specifics your questioning in the TBE ?
11/28/2005 (7:07 pm)
Hi Allan, i was also having problems as you can see above, if your at your wits end and not sure where to turn may i suggest you grab yourself the "free" vsk2005 express" and the sdk, by following the 2 threads above and using this you will get yourself a compile im sure. Not sure what specifics your questioning in the TBE ?

TBE Reads the makefiles that are used for linux and such. Only difference is, it reads the makefiles, sends them to mingw (the windows version of GCC C++ Compiler), and then MinGW, compiles.
