We've been working with the TGE for a while now developing this monster.
The Paradise Project
Be a colonist on an unknown planet and create a new society
www.gaminginparadise.com
The Paradise Project (TM) is a massively multiplayer online game playable from any PC that was created to offer players the opportunity to live out a second life within a virtual world. It allows players to live a worry-free and challenging life outside of real world constraints. But just as in real life, it is a world where every aspect is either natural or controlled by other players like you who have their own goals, aspirations, interests and ambitions. Play your role in a virtual society that is built completely by players, from equipment to food, from houses to shops, and even vehicles and tools. No computer help, just a bunch of players taking up a variety of challenges and having fun in the process!
Are you up to the challenge?
What benefit do I get by playing this game?
Everything you create is unique, from your family to your business, from your in-game look to your home. Players even have the liberty to create their own rules, associations, laws and governments!
You control what will be your destiny, not the computer.
You can interact with a multinational, multicultural community containing players that are interdependent or create your own unique community and decide who will be a part of it. All of this taking place on the same planet.
You can build new skills over time and become an expert if you wish or simply relax and be a part of the community.
There is no need for specific career paths. You can utilize the 42 different skills available to develop whatever expertise you desire. Whether it is to develop a career, to be a champion at sports and games, to go on adventures, to make scientific discoveries or to overcome any challenges the world provides.
You will be able to travel around an unexplored world, discover different cultures, ancient artifacts, alien sceneries, and life forms in the comfort of your home.
Have a direct and permanent impact on the storylines and the fate of whole communities as the actions of your player character can affect all the lives on this world full of mysteries.
You will never get bored, as changes are constant, even when you are asleep!
Within 30 minutes of play, you will have a great sense of accomplishment and joy!
The game will be released in Autumn 2006.
At that point you will be FREE to download and you will receive 14 FREE days to check it out before making any commitment to the game.
In the meantime, join our game forum at www.gaminginparadise.com/forum to keep up to date and to learn more about this most engaging and innovative game.

For Matthew: With TGE, the only real hope for a bugless seamless world of that size is by using portals every 2 km per side, making 2 km x 2km landscapes and tiling them by modding the source code a bit. (there are resources available to allow this). Changing the SquareSize parameter is not a good idea unless you can fix the problems you'll get with water going wierd and having bizarre and boring lanscapes.
What we want however IS a seamless world. We're looking at various options, one of which would be to look at other, more expensive engines to make it happen. Our intention is to go commercial with this after all, though I think that with the TSE things could be much easier than with TGE alone...

It definitely is different than Second Life as The Paradise Project has a Storyline, Events, Quests, etc... much like many MMORPGs out there. The main difference is the approach taken and how the gameplay will be.For Matthew: With TGE, the only real hope for a bugless seamless world of that size is by using portals every 2 km per side, making 2 km x 2km landscapes and tiling them by modding the source code a bit. You seem to know your stuff pretty well, too. I'll be keeping an eye on the project :).

Yeah, I think you would pretty much have to go with TSE for a world of that size...You seem to know your stuff pretty well, too. I'll be keeping an eye on the project :).

I hope many people will keep an eye on the project. I would be very proud to say later on that we started off our success in GarageGames and ended up one of the top Game development studios in North America (or the World ... hopefully and eventually?!).

I was wondering if you have one giant seamless world (seeing as it's going to be 10 000 square kilometres * 25), or if it's going to be zoned. If it is seamless, would you care to give some hints on how you went about creating a seamless world in TGE?
Anyways, good luck with it, hope it works out for you and your team.
