Gamecloud)New Torque Engine Version Released

by Adrian Tysoe · in General Discussion · 11/23/2005 (11:32 am) · 13 replies

GarageGames announced today that version 1.4 of their Torque Engine has been released for game developers. The new 1.4 version will be the last free update for the engine and features over 200 improvements. The engine is available for $495 for commercial developers and $100 for developers who earn less than $250,000 a year.

Only 1.4 just thought it weird that it would be posted elesewhere first, not mentioned here on GG as far as I can tell.

Gamasutra reporting it too :) wonder if the vehicle physics have improved, and whether there's going to be a new 1.4 demo.

That's the really interesting part.

I have yet to see anywhere on the GG site that we are gonna have to pay for updates after this. So im sure thats incorrect. I hope!

Yea when your trying to establish better game news community relationships sometimes you
give someone the scoop? Maybe that's the case here. Anyhow 1.4 is a friggin masterpiece of
work. Thx GG and Associates.

I could see how this is the last free update, if they release constructor and fully integrate it into the engine like planned you would need to pay for it in some way. However no matter how you look at it I have owned TGE since 1.2 and definatly have got more than 100 bucks of entertainment from it.

I agree. I'm a long-time supporter of TGE and do not mind the thought of paying for an upgrade in the least.

I just didn't see it in the press release information (though it is on the product page).

Just tried the demo, love the colour picker :) the floats for colours used to drive me up the wall so that and the new treeview icons are a welcome addition :)

From TGE page

"Torque 1.4 also has received an illumination boost with its integration with the new Torque Lighting Kit."

That mean I don't have to buy the lighting kit? I was going to pick that up soon so if it's already in there then that saves me some cash. Or am I just misinterpreting something?

Just found the answer to my question.
