Muzzle Flash

Hi,
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for creating a simple muzzle flash on the barrel of a weapon? I did see one other thread regarding this, but I found it difficult to follow and it required some modeling which I haven't gotten into yet.
What I'd be happy with is simply 'mounting' a particle emitter on the barrel of the weapon model (the M16 from the modern soldier pack), let it shoot a flame, and die off until the player presses fire again. Is this doable using particles alone?
Thanks!
-Keith

It is doable by mounting particles alone, but it's not very pretty. For the best weapon muzzle flares, use animations when modelling. It surpasses all others.
