Recommend a good RPG please

by Andy Hawkins · in Torque Game Engine · 11/16/2005 (4:58 pm) · 37 replies

Can anyone recommend a good rpg please? I want to play something with medievil / fantasy sword and sorcery theme with a big wilderness, lots of crypts, good single player experience, not lots of mind less clicking.

I can only agree, KOTOR was a great game. The only RPG I've really bothered to play since fallout2.
Otherwise give a go. =)

Is minions of mirth online only or is there a single player campaign?

EDIT: I've just been checking out the vids - WOW! How long did that game take to make? Looks great!

Works in both single- and multiplayer.

If you want well written and replayable RPG's, buy the Might and Magic
Platinum Collection. It has four games in it, M&M 6 through 9 and you can
aquire it for about 10 to 15 bux. Very good rpg's very inexpensive.

******** EDIT ********

You can buy it from amazon.com for 18 bux at this link :

Some of the reviews say that it will not run on XP, but there are ways around that.
I run XP Pro and all of them run fine on it.

Wild Arms 1...My favorite game ever. Its an old one but its reallt compelling. Not that great graphics...but who said that pretty graphics are everything.

I would also suggest KOTOR 1 and 2 as well.

Well, I'm uninstalling Morrowind now. After about 6 hours of walking around VERY slowly (unencumbered of course) taking a ride on a Silt Rider, joing the fighter guild, killing some rats and heading off to retrieve a cube from a mountain top fortress only to be beaten to death by everyone there, I give up.

This game could have been alot better, the combat and movement sucks. The graphics and depth is great I just can't get past being creamed by every thing I encounter. I mean why send me on a mission that I can't win? Stupid game, I've seen much better and the characters animation and modelling - blech! How gaunt and horrible looking are they? Like I'm running flat out, in slow-mo all the time. If this is state-of-the-art from Bethesda ... well? That's just poor... Next!

I'll be checking out Fable and Bards Tale next.

Have you ever tried Chrono Trigger or Seiken Denetsu 3 for the SNES? You might also want to check out the Final Fantasy Legend series for the Game Boy. The Final Fantasy Legend series was a lto of fun in terms of gameplay, but the plotline was quite thoroughly silly in all 3 of them. A lot of people don'[t like the games, but I had fun with them.

You may also want to try 7th Saga for the SNES. I like the plot of that game and the sprite graphics. However, there is absolutely no character development at all. Its got a plot that is good at least.

Hope you have some fun.

There's a few SNES games for me to check out - thanks Brian. Of the FF series which is the best? Should I start at FF IX for example or just go to X?

I'm really looking for an adventure game that combine state-of-the-art graphics, programming and audio to create an immersive experience. I know a computer can do it, I just haven't seen proof from any games company yet. Morrowing was almost there... oh well.

Check out this user review of our RPG, Minions of Mirth. I think it's pretty fair :)

@Josh - nicely recieved on the forum posting there. That's great advertising for your game. In fact it's inspired me to check it out. A MORPG with no subscription is all I needed to hear :)

@Andy: Morrowind is a pretty old game now. It had problems, but I think at the time it was one of the first large world/open-ended play style games out there, and for that alone it was pretty cool.

You might also check out Dungeon Siege 1 and 2.

In terms of any RPG type, there's lots you could check out.

Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior/Quest, Lufia, Lunar, 7th Saga (as mentioned before), Kingdom Hearts, Arc the Lad, Grandia, Phantasy Star, Deus Ex... list goes on.
