UV unwrap

Hi,
I'm following the instructions in Ken Finney's first book to create, unwrap and skin a model. As long as I choose "cylindrical cap" for the unwrapping all goes well and the cylinder or whatever object I create loads into the "show tool" with the texture correctly placed on it. However, if I chose any other type of UV map such as "planar" or "box", everything works as it should until it's loaded into show tool or into a mission, and then the object shows OK but with no texture. The texture shows properly in Milkshape and the object is correctly skinned there. But once loaded into the show tool it has no texture.
Anybody had this problem or know how to solve it? Can't find anything in the forum search.
Thanks a lot,
Dave.
