Can you export to DTS in Milkshape with transparent materials?

I'm new to MilkShape 3D (or any 3D editor for that matter ;)), and I'm having a problem exporting to DTS.
I have a tree model with a .png material used for the leaves. The .png contains transparent areas and the model/materials DO view correctly inside MilkShape 3D. However, when I export to a DTS (both using the default DTS exporter included with MS 1.7.6 as well as the MS exporter that comes with Torque) my tree leaves show black where the transparency should be.
To test out if the .png was the issue I replaced my leaf .png with the foliage.png that comes with Torque for use on their 2 included trees. I still get the same issue, except instead of black the areas which should be transparent, they are orange or pink.
So, I'm assuming the issue has to do with the model itself. Anyone have this issue before and know of a solution?
