What program should I use for creating the building I heard QuArk is good but I want to give my building a realistic look I,ve been trying to hold out for constuctor but it seems like I going to have to use a different ine untill it is released. Any ideas.

3dWorld Studio From www.leadwerks.com is kick ass.

If ease of use is a major issue, I would go with the excellent Milkshape. Its free (I think), and I enjoy using it. But I'm not a modeller, so I'm not exactly the authority here.

Milkshape costs $25 and is really not for making buildings, although it can make .map's. I would go with Quark for now, as 3dworld studio is fairly expensive. And constructor is coming one of these days.

You could try blender. Its good for just about anything. Its free, and with a few tuts you can master its initially frightening layout. If you go with blender, go to http://www.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro

Quark, 3dword studio will do DIF objects (for interiors and building exteriors) Generally, fairly low poly but nice and fast to render/process/collide with.

Milkshape, Blender, Maya, 3DS, Lightwave for DTS shapes.. basically anything that's not a building :-)

Personally, I don't get on with Quark. I used to use Hammer but then Valve changed the license agreement so it was only allowed for use with Halflife. So the closest thing seems to be 3DWS

Being of limited budget, I cannot afford therefore do not use the high end apps. I use Milkshape and a couple of other low end tools to get my artwork made.

Blender is certainly a very capible option but it takes some getting used to. I've got Blender and a book on it, but getting the time and the determination to sit down with it is the hard part. The people who take the time to get used to it rave about it as far as I can tell.

If you're making buildings, what are they for? a FPS game or RTS game. Can they be destroyed?
If they are static buildings, use DIF objects. The shadows will be baked into the terrain and they can look really nice. Plus you get the advantage that you can walk around inside them if you need to.

If they are fairly small and you want to blow them up (like in C&C), you could use DTS objects. You get to put more detail into a DTS object easier. You can make a very detailed DIF object but it seems to take more skill due to the differences between the objects structure. DTS are simple meshes, DIF are collections of CSG Brushes..

That's me done, now to go teach my Grandma how to suck eggs ;-)
