Request for a new website feature

by David Dougher · in Site Feedback · 10/26/2005 (2:39 pm) · 9 replies

Since I seem to be on a roll this week with website requests I have another one.

I own most of the Kits and Packs that GG produces and more than once I have only discovered that a Pack was updated when a passing mention of it was made in a promotional piece a screenshot comment, or a discussion.

So, how about a page where you list all the Packs, SDK's etc. etc. And what the latest versions are? And then allow me to bookmark it.

That way when the page changes I get an immediate notification that something new is available and I don't have to go from Sept. 23 to Oct. 26th before I find out that John Kabus has a Lighting Patch addition for the RTS Kit.

Thanks.

There was an update? I had no idea.

David's suggestion would be greatly welcomed.

Second that - some kind of consistent versioning of resources in general. Maybe just a plain incremented counter or something.

I don't see anywhere in TDN that I would have received any indication that the Lighting Pack had a patch. I do see support for TGE, TSE, T2D and the RTS kit but I was more looking for a single stop shop for the latest version of all of the packages that GG ships, engines, games, and Packs.

Perhaps there is going to be such a page on the TDN website? Or there is one and I missed it?

If not I'll vote for one. In fact, I'd even start it. Somewhere off the main page where it is easily found by everyone?

Good morning everyone,

TDN does not and will not address this issue.

We are actually in the middle of a HUGE site reorganization, so this request comes at a good time. Product and demo browsing has totally been rewritten allow you to browse by keywords(ie pack, torque, tse, indie, etc) and sort by title, new, popular -- what you'd expect and it is so nice!

We currently do not store the date a download was modified but that would not be hard to add and then add a sort by recently updated in the browse.

your thoughts?

I guess I'll have to see how it looks. I think it would be nice to show what the latest rev's of different packages are at - if only so you don't waste time and bandwidth download a Pack you already own just to see if it has been updated.
I also think it would be a good marketing tool to show that GG, unlike some products out there, really does update its products on a pretty regular basis.

If the search functions allow me to get this information EASILY then I'm all for it.

Just to clarify my response in light of what Rick said:

TDN has a much better chance than the forums here regarding staying "in touch" with current things going on in products of interest. Since each group has a solid and (relatively) consistent "launch page", it will provide a good means for keeping track of current happenings about a particular product.

Of course, now that Rick has introduced his current project--as he said, the website here is going through a huge revamp, and that will solve the specific needs of version information, etc. extremely well!
