Hello There!
I was wondering what will people think about a RPG/Action game based on "Robin Hood"?
another thing I was asking myself, is what variation of "Robin Hood" is the best for such a game?

yours,

I wouldnt sacrafice fun for realism, but aim for a fun system which enhances the atmosphere of the game (ie. magic arrows might be fun, but they arent realistic, and i think they would take away from the atmosphere). Might be worth looking at how legolas uses his bow the recent in lord of the rings movies, i cant remember the specifics, just that it looked cool.

edit: on the subject of thief (again) it had a cool bow, even if you were to take out the elemental (magic) arrows.

I wouldn't sacrifice fun for realism, because a game is played for fun. what I ment is that I will try it out and check if it is more fun in one way or another.

I still don't know which version/s of "Robin Hood" should be used for a game. maybe I should use one from a movie(like "Robin Hood Prince Of Thiefs") or make up a combination. can you suggest any particular version you like?

thanks in advance,

You need to play Mount and Blade. Its a very indie title, but the archery system is pretty right on, and the combat is more advanced than most games you would buy off a store shelf. Just install it, and do tournament battles to see what the combat is like. Basically, everytime you do tournament Gladiator-like battles, you are given a different weapon at random and either on foot or on horseback. Check it out at http://www.taleworlds.com/

Their archery system is contrary to that said above. In mount and blade, your target area gets smaller while you hold still for a moment, and slowly gets less accurate, which makes sense, because holding a recurve bow for a long time is tiring.

@Aaron; The "longer you aim the smaller the crosshair" idea is a really interesting idea...perhaps extending it to "but if you hold it too long it gets bigger" because of the muscle stress of holding it that long. Might makes for an interesting and challenging system.

@Rubes - nice idea!!!

@J Mills - I'm downloading Mount&Blade tryout at the moment, all I can say is that it looks really nice! Thanks for the suggestion.

@J Mills - thanks for the suggestion, Mount&Blade has a very nice archery system, that is very inspiering, as well as other parts of the combat system.
