New logo

What do you think of this idea for my company logo (mindlube software)? If you say it looks retarded I won't feel bad.

I like it a lot. Keep it up. =). However, the three red green and blue better have meanings for them, if not, it will not be effective.

Thanks Danny. Hmm.. the red green and blue don't really have actual meanings they are just pixel things- like in the RGB color space. Maybe I should blend them together into something less like button objects and more like furniture or background?

It's unique, that's for sure. I kind of like it, with the implied brain around the eye, looking at the boxes. I do agree with Danny, though, that the boxes are the weakest part. You may want to play around with that, though the colour is really effective.

Wish I could be more specific. :-)

Thanks Tim- what you said is helpful

Hmm, interesting, because the buttons are what struck me as being the most interesting part about the logo (just goes to show not everyone gets the same feel from the same things)--the simplicity of them combined with the pure colors drew me to them, making me think "hmm..what's that about?"...gave me all sorts of ideas of what the game -might- be like, but the important part is that it made me curious---which is what you want a logo to do.

Thanks Stephen;

I am glad the chiclet-pixel-things are interesting and the grey matter dude is identifiable as an implied brain shape- I actually traced an image of an old anatomy text woodcut of a brain.

I like the buttons and the brain... but I don't think they really fit together like that.

IMO the brain is what gets the attention and the buttons just stand out too much and distract you.

Maybe ditch the buttons and put the company name at the bottom of the brain?

Edit:

Or something like...

More good suggestions! Thanks Joseph for the mockup.

Hehe...sorry to be the one "different" voice, but the fact that the eye appeared to be "looking at" the buttons/gems/whatever in the original logo is one of the big things that made it curious to me as well (which again IMO is a good thing)...made me wonder what he was interested in! The separation between the gems and the eye/brain with the name in the middle makes them seem completely unrelated (which may be fine of course!), and therefore makes me wonder just what is going on in the logo, but not in as "good" a way as the original.

Just my 2 dollars worth!

I agree with Stephen on that point; the eye was checking something out.

Maybe it's how vivid the colours of the boxen are. Perhaps (gah, it pains me to even make this suggestion) you could try dimming them a little? I will say, though, that I suspect this would take away from the logo, but you should at least give it a try.

I'd also suggest trying to oval the eye a little. It seems a little harsh with it as nearly a circle. Something very slightly more eyelike might help reduce that.

OK you guys really got me thinking now:-) Here are a couple of more variations.

A. In this one I turned down the saturation and added some effect lines. It looks like playing my games could be lethal for mr. grey matter :-(

B. In this one , the E in the Asimov font becomes like the brain stem (or does it look too much like a jack-in-the-box?)

C. The L also could become the brain stem?

Combine the text type of C, with the brain stem on B and you might have a winner.

I do like Joseph's mockup though - especially the vertical layout. It looks like a poster or an invitation. What is that font?

I am kinda surprised nobody panned it yet :-) It sure is a bizarre logo. Thanks for your input everyone- I think it is a keeper.

I think Bob nailed it. I would also consider three other changes:

1) Now that the coloured bars are at the bottom, you may want to have the eye look down just a titch.

2) Also, you may want to flip the image, so the eye is looking to the right and down a little.

3) Ensure that the D in Mind is more defined. It looks line of like "MINOLUB".

FTR: I hate the lines in A, but think the colours are moving in the right direction.

It's a great whimsical design, which is appropriate for an indie game house. It'll translate to letterhead and business cards well, and is unique enough to stand out in someone's mind. Good job.

Edit: Forget my second point. I'm wrong. Use B with C's font, and make the eye looking a little down, and it'll probably be the one.
