Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, the director and producers of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the upcoming King Kong, will be producing the Halo movie!! The script for the movie is being written by the writer of 28 Days Later. Halo fans of the world breathe a giant sigh of relief and then jump up and down that we are getting a sci-fi movie from people who know how to make movies!! Here's the story from the Bungie website:

When I first read that I gasped. That means it not only has a chance of being decent, it has a chance of being good. Like really good.

I'm happy about it.

Lets just hope it doesn't turn into something like doom . . . one twisted story thats nothing like the game. I loves Lord of the RIngs, and King Kong looks good. But 28 Days later, yea, didn't really hook me, it just seemed off. . . But good luck to them, i cross my fingers and hope they can show people who make movies after games how its done.

Doom didn't exactly have the greatest storyline, let's face it. The most recent trailer for the movie is freaking hilarious, though, with the FPS view of the chainsaw at the end... My friends and I were all in stitches.

Bungie is supervising the storyline, Peter Jackson's exec producer and they get access to WETA. Which means insanely nice CG and props. I really hope they build a real master chief suit and make the covenant Non-CG. Plus, they have the 3 halo books (which are surprisingly excellent by the way) to take material from. Let's just hope the ending is better than Halo 2's! Overall, awesome news.
